Today i went to look at a 03 evo8. Car is that sexy dark blue it was so tempting but i had to investigate some more. let me add

23,000 miles on it
price is 23,995+tax so roughly around 25,800 for it

So i look at the manifold to see if there are any wrench marks it was looking pretty good, it had like NYevo stickers stuck all over it so i checked the exhaust is stock everything is stock so i checked out the downpipe off the turbo and low and behold there is 1 bolt missing holding it on. I was like WTF guy was like they were doing 18 point inspection to the car and some minor work. So we go into office sit down chat guy just isnt budgeing for 24k out the door so he walks away and says ill see what i can do. Other sales guy over heres us talking and he is like "you guys looking at that evo, ya it came in on a flatbed it was pretty messed up" so i go to the sales man "WTF" again and so i talk wit the tech and i find out that the kid traded in the car for a EVOmr and he had blew the Transfercase on the car. They replaced the Tcase wit a brand new one and a new clutch. I was talking all mechanical stuff is still under warranty so if i ever had a problem to just bring it back. So i was like alright i slapped a downpayment on it just so they can finish it up and i can test drive it tommrow (saturday) ill see how it rides and ill try for 24k out the door again, but what do u guys think. Ive seen my stupid friends blow there rears doing stupid shit but they dont abuse them daily. Just wondering what u guys think

Honestly, My friend picked up an 03 evo with 11k miles for 23k. Keep looking, you can get one cheaper

Never make a down payment or security deposit on a car you have:

A. Never driven

B. Have not even negotiated a final sale price

C. Carfax?

That is just crazy.

For $23,000 ? He can buy a 2gB gsx and have a fully built 6bolt motor? Everyone has their own opinions, I was stating mine. I was not trying to cause an argument. He can also buy a 1g awd and have $20,000 to play with.......

So what is nicer and faster for the price? Got any examples?

How about an ls1 camaro/firebird? Or even a 04 GTO. I have seen those go for 21k.

Both IMO are nicer and quicker. :sneaky:

This GTO is on eBay right now, buy it now for 20,049.

LOL guys, obviously he wants an EVO, not GTO, not 1g/2g or anything else :)
I don't understand why would you give a downpayment for something you didn't even try out yet? If they didn't let you test drive it when you were looking at it, should've just walked away.

I wouldn't have left the downpayment. But in my area i have never seen an evo sell for less than 23k. That was my buddies with 30k miles. And it has a mad crazy rear/t-case noise. I think thats not TOO bad of a price. You know it was abused, but look at it this way. You have a BRAND NEW T-CASE and CLUTCH. those arent cheap to replace on that car. 03s usually have some problems with the transfer case anyways. so its probably better that it was replaced. How long are they giving you warrenty for? Drive it and see if it still feels like a new car. Look for misc. rattles, clicking, suspension noises, noises when you steer, rough interior etc. Look at how the pedals are worn and you can see exactly how the guy drove it.

That's too much $$$ for a car that has a not-so-good history behind it.

The bad thing with EVOs and other sporty cars is that you know the former owner abused it. Unless if you find a granny driving one, Im sure it has seen some track time.

I agree with the DSMer that said look into a GTO.

If you really want an EVO, save a little and get it new. If you're willing to pay $26K for it, what's an additional $4K?

price isnt too bad. you guys saying look into the gto, considering the car has another 80hp or so, v8 and a rwd, im pretty sure the insurance is a litlte higher. sounds like hes stuck on the car already. drive it, if you like it, get it. thats all you really can do, you may find one cheaper out of state, then you have to drive and go get it and that bs. i say if it drives good gor for it if thats what you want. IMO i wouldnt to be paying 400+ a month on a car like that, i drove one and just wasnt impressed at all. i had a srt4 at the time and would much rather have one of those, but thats just me. Do what makes You happy, bc your the one spending the money

I wouldn't of left a down payment either, I would of just left!

If they were leaving nuts/bolts out when doing WARRANTY repairs, then I would even question the "new clutch" install. It seems to me they just fixxed what was obviously broke for a quick resale.

True, very very true. I wouldn't just jump on the first evo you see. If you want an evo that bad, just wait it out and that perfect evo will come.

let me refrase myself i didnt put a downpayment it was just a deposit fully refundable just to show i have interest in the car so they can hold it for me until i make a decision i have 3 days after that if i dont decide i get my money back and they sell it for the next person who asked about it.

i have 3 witnesses that they said if i dont want the car i get the money back they just dont wanna waste there time on someone who doesnt really have teh intention of buying it

this isnt the first evo i have looked into also this is the 4th one, i found a mint black one 03 for 19,000 wit 61,000 miles on it that a old guy owned so i was gonna take a look at it wednesday and test drive the blue one wednesday also

I wasnt telling him that he should I buy a GTO, I was simply replying to Spoolin4Evers's post.

Also in response to another persons comment I actually think that the GTO would have a lower insurance rate than the evo if not very close.

NP man, I didn't mean to sound offensive :thumb:

I went to the local Dodge dealer this morning and wanted to try the srt-4. The guy that works there goes like "Well I'll let you drive it if you are going to buy it for sure. We can go inside and fill out the paperwork and you can take the car today with you." so I'm like WTF "How am I gonna buy something if I didn't try it? I don't know if I'm even gonna like it" So I just walked away to my car and left.
Hell, don't leave him depost or anything if he doesn't let you try the car.

You can find evos around here for just over 20k with that kind of mileage. Private sellers are in the upper teens. Still too much for that ugly of a car.

evos are for peopel who cant build thier own cars....STIs also

Or for people who want a good platform to start with in order to build meaner beasts than our cars are capable of. :thumb:

ps - "i" before "e" except after "c" or when sounded as "a" as in neighbor and weigh.

24K for USED? That's odd, at the dealer we got offered that for NEW one year ago. Did the price go up?

EVOs a good car for driving fun especially in stock form. Slap some good tires on it and be done.

or have way too much money to build a 50,000 car that is as fast as a 15,000 tsi awd or gsx
