I'm working full time co-op this summer so I've decided to invest in a full coilover kit. There is such a wealth of information on these so I was hoping someone can dumb it down for me.

My car is supposed to be dropped 1.5" with tokicos blues and shocks, but maaaaan, is it low. Is this normal?

Here is an idea of what I have in mind:
Mainly Road car
Will see track seldomly (but it definitely will)
Ride Quality is not a huge issue...some level of adjustability is good.
1.3" drop is good enough for me
Cash wise, I'm willing to spend upto 1.3K U.S.

Do these come with some sort of cambering solution? That would be a big plus for me.

Thanks everyone.

I like Tein personally. But I am a major performace freak.

My last DSM had Eibach springs and KYB shoks. My M3 has Tein.

The tein freakin rock. I absolutely love them. My next DSM will probably sport Tein.

I see you have a 97 GSX... here is the information I came up with on Tein coilovers for your car enjoy:

I would suggest the basic or SS kit. They are both adjustable so you can increase your ride height in a daily driver. The kit comes with instructions on properly setting you set to either drag settings, autocross and a few other suggested settings for your car.

I was gonna say the same.

If name brand it a big thing for you then yes you can go Tein. Great performance and well proven of course by just about every make and model car.

The KSports however provide great performance just not as established when it comes to their name. As for price you can't get any better than the ksports unless you go with the ebay sleeves that just go around your stock shocks/struts.

If you will have around 1.3k to spend on a set of coilovers you can get ksports for around half of what your budget it and get a ton more options such as dampening, height adjustment, some have camber adjustment as well.

Even shipping them to canada you can save yourself a ton of money going KSport. They are also a sponsor for multiple cars in the drift world so they do know suspension.

I apologize if Im thread jacking but has anyone tried the Tokiko's? I haven't heard any reviews on them.

WTF

Since when exactly did drifting equate to good suspension?

theres a few options. D2 and Ksport are the same thing, different colors, both are typical japanese shocks which for someone who knows a lot about suspension and tries to push there car to the limit, will tell they suck. street driving for the most part will not show this.

From my research I think the HotBits kit is probably the best possible option for you. Plus their NA distribution center is in canada. Get the street setup and some RRE camber plates and you'll have the best possible suspension for the price that I've found. Plus, Hotbits are rebuildable, and upgradeable.

The only other setup that I would recomend would be Koni shocks with coilover perches (not cheap ones) and decent springs (hypercoils). Not really a true "full coilover" however the Koni is a better shock, and this would allow you to get the exact spring rates needed for your car. Add is some of the other parts needed (do a search and find the other thread about 2g suspension that was like 2 weeks ago) and you'll be set.

I was using it as an example that their suspension is used is more than just a test car driven on the street. Drifting doesn't mean it's good but it means that suspension product was at least used and tested more than a drive around the block. I also said that it means they know suspension...never said it ment they were good.

My opinion on ksports is not only from experience in using them along with other brands such as tein, rsr and tanabe but from other reviews and customer comments.

I have no idea if D2 and Ksport are the same. I know I can sell both of them and they have different prices and dealer prices at that but that is the most I know about them being the same of different. However KSport has 6 different types of coilover kits to go with vs. only the one D2 has.

Also alot of my ksport experience along with many other brands is in cars such as my rx7 and 240's which yes they are going to be different as far as what they are set up for.

In the end just take some of this info, do some of your own research cause a topic like this there will never be a full agreement on which to get. In the end, you have to pay for them and ride on this suspension.
