I got quoted for over 1 grand every 6 months so WTF...

Now you know what it's like to live in the NY/NJ/Ct area.

I wouldn't think there would be much difference. Your taking a hit because of your age anyway. I am 23 and pay $672 YEARLY for a 95 GSX and a 92 Dakota.

By the way, insurance companies don't ask for dyno sheets so hp doesn't matter.

heythanks for the replies guys i called the insurance company and the guy i talked to gave me an estimate of 709 dollars and my talon is 518 dollars every 6 months(it may be 518 a year im not sure neither are my parents but i beleive its 518 every 6 months, and the 709 dollars is for every 6 months i beleive) so its gonan be at least 200-400 dollars more a month, sounds good to me sicne all i have to pay is the difference between the ESi and GSX :) thanks again

$730/month full coverage. No speeding tickets, no accidents. Just one cop who thought I 'spun' my tires and gave me exhibition of speed...which insurance companies see as bad as a DUI. Yay!!

But yeah, I'm paying $300/month for liability now. It used to be $280/month full coverage.

730 Dollars a MONTH!? WTF! That's pver 8.5K a year. Wow.

That's less than property tax over here.

I'm paying 200/mo. full coverage under my mom's name. I'm 21, driving since 18, clean record. *Knock on wood* Location has to do with a lot too. If i were down south in the more suburban area, my insurance would be something around 100-120/mo.

I had to go to court for the same thing. Cop said I was squeeling all across the turn from start end of the turn. I informed him I had AWD and there is no way I could have done that. Come court day, I was "found guilty" and punished with a fine. My car was stock at the time. But I still only pay $240/6 months for my 2g and $70 every 6 months for my 1g. And i'm only 17.

Hey guys...

Just wanted to get your opinion on this. Im 16 and Im about to buy a 98 GSX. I just got an insurance quote from my insurance company, State Farm. Ill be paying around $350 a month once I get the GSX. I have a GS right now, and Im paying $260. No tickets, good driver, and no major accidents (1 fender bender), and Ive been driving for about a year. This sound ok to you guys? How much do you pay for insurance on your GSX?

Thanks for the help,
Brian

Stay away from big name companies like State Farm, Geico, Nationwide etc. They will always be higher. Try to find a small local company.

Have you tried to get your car insured through your parents? It might be cheaper. $350 sounds kinda high.

I'm paying $150 for my car and my 05 Hyundai Tucson, full coverage on both, me and my wife as drivers, she has a clean record, I have a speeding ticket (88 in a 70 on a highway), insured with Geico, I'm 26, my wife is 25.

Well...we have 4 cars and a motorcycle; that makes somewhat of a difference I think. Im also a full-time driver. If you have 4 or more cars, its mandatory for everyone to be a full-time driver...and Im 16, so that bumps it up a bit.

Sounds about right when I was 17 and had my GS-t it was around $275 a month and that was 7 years ago so it sounds like it is on. You should always look to see if you can find something cheaper as that really starts to dent your wallet.

Insane, I'm 16 turning 17 in a month, with a 83 in a 65 ticket, and I only pay 190 or 195 a month full coverage. But yet I do have a 90 and you looking at a 98, but I don't think that it should be that high.

List which ever parent will be the cheapest on the Eclipse and list yourself on one of their cars. At $350/month I would sell the car. Like was said before, shop around, that's way over priced.

Here we go again.

No matter how much we try you can NOT compare insurance quotes between two people. There are so mnay variables that it would be impossible to get any sort of accuracy. You could also search for the 10K other threads on this subject.

Agreed. But just to let you know my insurance went down when I went from a 95 GS to a 95 GSX. Grange Mutual said the AWD was a safety feature, I wasn't complaining. :sneaky:

98 gsx and your 16? Are you paying for the car?

Yup Im 16. And yes Ill be paying for the car. I have a pretty good job, which Ill be working 4 days a week permanently instead of the normal 3. Ive done the math, itll be expensive, but I can manage it. Plus...I need a new car. I want a GSX. Put 2 and 2 together, and 'whala'.

I dont know if you remember, but the last time you posted a thread like this I told you to give Florida First Insurance a call. When I first got my car I was with Progressive paying $303/month and when that expired I went with Florida first and got the same coverage (full coverage) for $150/month. I dont have the number but I'll post it once I get home from work.

$350 a month is insane! Sorry I was just thinking too loudly.

I would take the advice said earlier of having your parents insure the car and list you in their policy (that is if they have good driving records). For $350 a month, you will exceed the value of the car in the first 2 years that you own it. I rather buy a slower car, have a good driving record, age a little and lower my insurance.

Go shop around. That $350 a month can go to better use than pay insurance people. (no offense to members that work in the auto insurance business)
