Definitely not something that should be there. Even the marks along the cylinder look a bit rough. Run your finger nail over them to see if you can feel them.

If you were changing the headgasket because of some smoking, chances are, it's from blow by. None the less, you need to atleast hone the cylinders. Depending on how bad the hatches are in the cylinders you will possibly need to bore them .020

The "scratches" look like recent Hone markes to me - But the shiny area could be a bound Wrist Pin / shot Piston - This Motor appears to have been "into" previously - I'd drop the Pan & jerk ALL these Pistons & Rods & Inspect, etc...

Simply re-honing or de-glasing the cylinders may not be enough. You may want to check with a local maching shop and have them measure the cylinder diameters. This should give you an indication if simply honing will clean up the cylinder.

What was your compression before the HG went?
Are the scuffs consistant on the other 3 cylinders?
Has this motor been rebuilt?

Need some more details and pictures to properly diagnose.
But, it looks like piston slap from the bores being too big, or just from high milage wear.

Honing and re-ringing will more than likely do absolutely nothing other than make it look pretty before you start the motor. That is due to the fact that you will just be increasing the bore size.

Guys thanks for your input.

Yeah all the other cylinders have the scoff marks. I have had nothing but problems with this 6 bolt when i droped it in. I got it done by RRS...

I guess i am just going to have to start fresh with another one block, to many problems with this one... damn.:(

Thanks again,:dsm:
Joey.

From your profile - "- 95 Pistons (020 over) -" I say RRS MAY have botched the Wrist Pin Mod for the 2G Pistons.
Just out of curiousity, what does RRS stand for? I'm not sure if you guys mean RRE or RRS, heh.
