Does anyone here know of anyone swapping the 420a with the EVFo engine?

There is a local guy with a wrecked EVO, and my local DSM shop is thinking about doing the swap in my car.

You would have to change so many things, your car would barely be an Eclipse anymore. All the mounts, sensors, whatever are all different. But if they'll do it for free, go for it.:D

I'm not so sure about impossible.

From what the mechanic tells me, new engine mounts will have to be made, along with the crossmember under the engine. Since the Evo 4g63 spins the same way as the 420a, its just a matter of getting a FWD transmission from another 4g63 (non-Evo)

Obviously, wiring harness and ECU from the 420a will have to go in place of the Evo electronics.

I beg to differ... I have a 2.4L version of the 420a in my car right now. I swapped. Torque is yummy.

Wow, God forbid someone post a thread about something technical that doesn't pertain to cold air intakes and fart cans in the NT forum. What was I thinking.

bd1000eclipse,
So what makes you think you are king sh!t of DSM's and can make a 'rule' that swaps in DSM's arent allowed? When people show a little creative ingenuity, support them, or if you don't agree, say so in a proper fashion. Don't bash them with a weak Photoshop attack. It makes you look like a tool. You can at least act like the other two members who replied and have some class.

OK,
Calm down everybody
If Money is not an object, and you want the novelty of owning this potentially lethal beast of a machine ( try to put in the AWD system from the EVO, someone did it with a Mirage body allready) then you should do this. I knew a guy that put a 350 chevy in a 67 VW body. What a head rush that was. Remember, be sensible as far as money is concerned, if you have to. Working stiffs like myself have to be. But if you are a trust fund baby or equivalent, do what your heart desires.
It's all about the adrenaline. Acceleration feels good in any platform:thumb: :shhh: :dsm: :talon: :laser:
It's all about the adrenaline!!

photoshop, haha.. ya right, try paint on that one buddy.. i dont remember saying, "no swaps are allowed whatsoever because i am god..." once again someone put words in my mouth. This site is not about technical information anymore, its about stupid questions like this one. you want an evo engine, buy an evo. so jump off my ass and go read more about swapping your engines.. i think you guys who want to swap other engines have the wrong car to do so.

in ^^^^^^ his defense, I can see where he is coming from in being upset at the question. This has come up numerous times and everytime it has been declared as a not cost effective option. But you are unique in wanting to do the EVO variant of the 4G but when you say all it needs are some mounts, electronics and what not, it makes me remember a certain post about someone saying he was gonna do it, and it was gonna be so easy, just a few mounts and electronics etc etc, and I think last we heard from him was that he was gonna have to swap out the whole front clip form the donor car onto his because it just wouldn;t work any other way..... If you wanna take a chance of potentially destroying your car and not having it drive right again then go for it. But honestly it would be far cheaper to just rebuild your current engine and get either a Hahn or Star kit and go for the gusto. But if the local shop that is selling you on the idea wants to do the entire job for free and will promise you a new car if they totally destroy yours trying to make it work then by all means go for it........

Like I said, it wouldn't be an AWD conversion, that is waaay too much cash.

Who was the member that tried this? I would like to contact him.

Thanks man! This helps.

The one thing that is different with an Evo swap, is that the Evo 4g63 is backwards (compared to the non-evo 4g63), that saves a lot of fabrication (ie. tranny is on the same side as the 420a)

Im doing the Evo swap in my 97 gst because i blew the first motor. The evo 1-3 are direct bolt -ons. only the wiring and ecu have to be changed. im using my rebuilt Fwd tranny for this transplant. Ill post my car up as soon as i get it up and ready :D

Keep me in the loop on this one. I was wondering about the possibility of doing this, and you obviously have the set of brass balls it takes to actually do it.:thumb:

just for the record, the guy who decided to go for the whole frotn clip idea didnt do it because the other was impossible, it was just because he wimped out and thought that switching the front clip would be easier, its not so hard, I mean other people do engine swaps all the time, so you have to make new motor mounts and weld them in, so what? its not that hard, people have been doing it for 60 years, to say its impossible is the statement of an idiot, if I felt like it I could drop in the motor out of say a monte carlo, I dont think under hood space would be that much of an issue

Sorry, had to say it...

people in this forum bi*** too much!!!! Just because it is not your idea it is not impossible or it can't happen. if people can put a 350 in a yugo you can put pretty much anything u want to in anything with enough $$$ and patience!!! i have a 99 mirage that is the same platform as the evo that i just put a 95 420a into because some of the so call "experts" on here said it cant be done!!!! And guess what.... it works haven't run it on the track yet still working some bugs out because i did an auto to manual and n/a to turbo at the same time. So dude i say go ahead with your swap if u want to dont let anyone on here discourage you!!!!!
