I bought the infinity stereo and forogt to ask the guy if he had the security code...so I called Mitsubish and they said that I would have to bring to car there and have them do it for $40.

Is there any other possible way that I can get the code??? Or do I have to just take it to the dealership?

Call another dealership. Seriously. Some will give you the "bring it in" crap and some will give it to you over the phone for free if you have the serial number off the top of the stereo. I was quoted anywhere from $40 to $60 from several local places until I found one that just did it over the phone for free.

Just don't mention that you "just bought it". Just tell them you unhooked your battery or something and it reset, if they ask. Don't tell them anything unless they ask first.

Thanks bro, i GREATLY appreciate the advice:) :) :)

By chance, do you know the number for the dealer that you called? I'm selling the stereo and the auction ends tommorrow and everyone is emailing me if I have the code. Thanks again

I don't know the number off-hand, but it was Coconut Creek Mitsubishi in Florida (I'm not sure of the city, whether it's Coconut Creek, FL or maybe some other Ft. Lauderdale suburb). I'm sure you could look it up on some Internet Yellow Pages site somewhere.

Thats the dumbest thing I ever heard......Why would it have a code?

O man..

The serial number's on the radio, but the security code is on a couple of red cards you're supposed to keep someplace other than the car. It's a 4-digit number. If you lose it, you need your serial number to have Mits look it up for you.

What is this little trick? The dealer gave me a code when I bought my car but it doesn't work. I don't want to pay for it if I don't have to.

Here's a trick-- call this number, ask for the service dept., give them your radio's serial number and/or VIN if they ask, and ask nicely for the code: (954) 283-1000. That's Coconut Creek Mitsubishi in Pompano Beach, FL. They have been very helpful to several DSMers asking for radio codes.

Sorry to bust your laziness bubble Frost, but they have to have the serial number. I just picked up my GS-T and had to go through the theft code ordeal. :D

Once you get the trim bezel off (snaps on, two clips at the sides, two at the bottom, careful if it's cold, it'll be brittle), you _might_ be able to see the serial # if it's on the top of the radio- some are, some aren't.

I had to take off the top part of the center console and pull the radio becuase the serial # was on top of the radio but all the way at the back. It wasn't very hard just a few screws and the clips of the bezel. I called the Coconut Grove Mitsu dealer and it took them a day to get the code but they were cool even when I told them I lived in Ohio.

Jesus this was easy, sorry I waited so long, just slipped in a flat head and the bezel just popped out, looked at the top of the radio and right in the front was the SN#, called my local mitsu gave them my # and Im all set.

oh man.. i didnt have the radio code for my GSX.. and i called and asked the dealer if they will get if for me.. they were asking $99 just to pull the code!!!! that is ludacris.. i called another dealer and they told me the same thing except $95.. they were giving me BS that it wasnt easy to get it.. and i spoke to one of thm and said I KNOW its just checking the serial #.. so they said if i can get the serial # they would pull it for me..

it took less than 1 minute.. just pop off the black bezel around the stereo.. i used a flathead screwdriver.. easily comes out.. and if u look at the right side of the radio deck.. u can slightly see it.. and very readable without having to remove the deck.. this is on a 95 gsx deck.. the different trim stereos or 97-99 stereos maybe different as far as the location of the serial number.. luckily on the 95s it was right there and didnt require removing the whole deck..

called the dealer back up gave them the serial number and they gave me the code.. simple as that..

DO NOT PAY 99 BUCKS FOR THIS FROM THE DEALER..
