What is the highest horsepower that people have run using 2G pistons? Doesn't matter what rods they used, we all know the stock 2G rods kinda suck.

The 91 rod 95 piston motor is a very common rebuild for DSMers. As long as detonation is kept to a minium the rods are going to fail before the pistons. People have done 500 to wheels on 2g pistons.

That's the info I'm looking for. I don't care how much the 1G big rods can hold. I've heard before 450-500HP for the 2G pistons. 98TsiAWD, I read that thread and there's tons of info in there about forged pistons and piston slap, but not much about the 2G pistons. I'm thinking about just putting some Eagle rods in my motor that's in the car now, but that's only if the compression is really good and there's no excessive crankplay. So that will end up being pretty cheap for a nice strong motor, just hopefully the CW will stay away!

Yeah, Thats sounds like it would be pretty good. Good luck staying away from the CW. I dont dare touch my 7 bolt bottom end. If it f's up, Im doing a 6 bolt of maybe 4g64..

Well for me it's either gonna be put in some Eagle rods and pray that I don't get CW for about a year or 2. Or I'm gonna do a built 4G64, which will cost me a lot of money, which I would have to find somewhere somehow. I figure if I just put in some rods and run it for a year I'll be ready to go bigger then. Hell if it does CW w/in a year I'll just have to sell the pistons/rods and whatever else I can to get some money back and then do the '64. But I will definitely be measuring crank play before I go any further with this. I'll be running a ported 1G head, web cams, Frank 4, Tial 40mm WG, IRC fmic, DSMLink, and all other supporting mods, so 450-500HP may be a possibility for me :D

The power of visa...you said it yourself.;)
Im only planning on aroudn 350hp in the end right now, but if my 7 bolt takes a walk, then who knows what Ill end up at. Becauase it will either be a 6 bolt (1g rods, 2g piston) or a built 2.4 4g64 like you said. Then I will probly upgrade everything to its max.

There are several cars that have the 4g64 block such as the galant, mighty max and spyder (it varies on year/make of car since obviously the spyder turbo has the 4g63).

Arnt the 91 Rods the same as 90 rods

Yes they are. All pre may 92 rods are the "big" rods. That is in the turbo engine for sure, I don't know about the NT engine.

So is there anyone here that has dyno #'s using 2G pistons that's close to or higher than 500?

i was wondering which eclipse it came in. i should've known it was the spyder. thanks. soooo... what are the specs on it? hp and tq.... sorry if i'm getting a little off topic here.

they also come in those mistu expo mini van things...
Anyhow I dont think that most people build high hp dsm's with stock pistons. When making tons of power like that Im sure just a slight screw up and the piston's would go. that is why most people either do the work themselves or know a good mechanic that builds/machines their motors and they dont worry about piston slap...-snivel snivel-
If you are going for that kind of power then you most likely arent going to be driving a 500+ whp dsm on the street anyhow so why would you go with 2g pistons? Forged can be much more forgiving to tuning error...

First off, everything you said except this is correct.

I know of 3 dsm's within 1hr drive of me that have 450-550whp and drive them every day. Heck, one is on this board...Matt Lennon. He makes 467hp on a completely stock 91 6bolt motor with HKS 272 cams and Crower springs and retainers as his only engine mod. Oh yea, and he drives it from Frederick MD to Baltimore MD every day (go to mapqest and find out how far it is). Once I finish my build (same setup as Matt's car, except a built bottom end, better engine management and slightly larger FMIC) I'll add to the number of 450-550whp cars driven every day.

The crazy people are out there...

How am I wrong? Reread what I said... I said in both cases "most likely" that 500+whp cars do not drive everyday. how many do you see honestly, Im being truthful, I know there are some out there which is why I didn't ignorantly say that noone does it. And how many 500+ whp dsms are there anyway... not that many. Im being realistic, and out of those 500+ whp dsm's that daily drive there cars, how many are on stock 2g pistons? exactly...

There you go. That's exactly the kind of info i'm looking for, but of course w/ the 2G pistons. I know of a guy that dyno'd at 460HP on 2G pistons with Crower rods (along with all his supporting mods of course). So I suppose that's getting towards the max those pistons will hold.
