Hi, (this is my first post here........)

How much horsepower is a 20G supposed to flow??
What is the max psi effeciently for this turbo?

Sorry for the above post RYSO. Some here believe this board is just like DSMTALK.

To answere your question, a 20G is a great turbo. With the right supporting mods, it is capable of over 400whp. It has run 10s, but I would say it is a solid 11sec turbo. I have seen many people(myself included) that have run 25psi+ on a 20G. It will, however, lose efficiency after 24psi. This does not mean you cant run any more. It just means that the airwill be more difficult to keep cool, thus resulting in detonation. There arealso many types of 20Gs now. You can get them with either tdo5, tdo6 turbine wheels. Internally or externally gated. And have the turbines clipped as much as you want. All of these things will change the efficiency level of the turbo. If you are content on this turbo, I would suggest an externally gated 20g w/ an unclipped standard tdo5 turbine wheel, in a ported 7cm turbine housing. This turbo will spool quick, provide excellant power potential, and minimize cost. :thumb:

The TD05 unclipped turbine with ported 7cm housing sounds interesting. Most people run the turbo with TD05 turbines but they use a 15 deg clip right? I wonder if the unclipped turbine would cause compressor surge. Do you know anybody running that setup? If it has pretty good spool response, I may go that route instead of the L1R or Big T28 Killer.

Except if I went with that setup, I would run it with an internal wastegate with a big WG flapper and mega porting in the wg hole.

Or even better yet how about the 20G with TD06 compressor housing, TD05 turbine and 7cm housing. That way the compressor can breathe and still have quick spoolup.

Looks like it may be time to call Slow Boy Racing and see whats available.

Any thoughts?

I have SlowBoyRacing's TD06 (compressor housing and wheel) internally gated 20G on my 1G. Love it. Full 21psi by 3400rpms, pulling to redline. Best time of 12.31@112 on pump. No runs on race gas.

I would just get a TD05 20g with a 23 degree clip. I dont know of a 20g that has gone faster than tha BR 20g including the TD06 20g.

This is the turbo I was referring to. the turbo is actually called a
"tdo6-20G/tdo5-7cm" Commonly named, a tdo5 20G.

Do you know anybody that sells that turbo unclipped with an internal gate?

:dsm: I have a HRC super 20g and its able to support 500hp at 30psi of boost !!! Ive never tested the 30psi, but I did hit scramble boost mode and hit 26.9 and blew my upper IC piping off !!!
Ive dynoed in at 410hp as my best so far with my 20g. I plan to a differemt intake manifold and use a75 shot to dyno next time.

Ive been reading a lot of your posts 20gst and I have found a lot of your posts misinforming... I see your fastest et is 13.0@109mph... I sure hope you werent making "410hp" when you ran that! Id like to see your timeslip and dyno chart if you dont mind. Im not trying to be a dick here, Id just like to see a hrc20g make 410whp with no nitrous...

I agree. That HP and mph do not go together. I made a 373WHP at 25psi. My best quarter mile was 5 months ago(last time I ran). I ran 13.1 @110. That was at 19-20psi. So perhaps you are like me?? Maybe you ran your best quarter mile awhile ago, and have done some more since?

Wow a friend of mine had his car dynoed and was getting 375 hp. He ran a best so far of 11.8 @ around 118 w/ a 1.6?? 60ft(clipped TDO5 20g). He is on the dsm times list. Then there is anouther local guy that dynoed 400whp and runs a 11.29( garret set up). I would be interested in all your mods. The hans super20g i believe comes with the 10cm housing which has been proven to not be the better set up on the 20g. I never call people a lier unless i can prove it but i deffinetly dont buy it.

Was your 410whp without the 75 shot of nitrous? Was that the SAE corrected number or the uncorrected number? If the dyno was at high altitude and a correction factor like SAE, STD, DIN or EEC were used then your horsepower numbers won't be anywhere near accurate. The correction factors do not work very well on boosted cars at high altitude.

No my posts arent misinforming at all. My personal dyno is done on a BLITZ ID meter and I know you may think this unit is not a true dyno, I understand that, I get gripe from friends as well.
No but seriously I only ran best at 13.6@109 just with the 20g no squeeze. My 60ft time was 2.4 best.
This was done back in AUGUST 2002. I plan to rent the dyno here at the shop for the day and really see the real numbers after I finnish doing some more stuff.
Sorry if I was being a bit misinforming to you, but the Blitz unit says 410. I wonder if the Blitz is picking up the violent wheel spin and using it as hp since the unit records from the spedo and wheels etc., Ill be happy to let you know the real dyno #s soon.

Well its just that I ran a 110mph trap with my 16g and minimal supporting mods... 12.4@110 is my best ever and I know I was prolly making 300whp at most

so whats everyone opion for the 20g if u want a fast spool up and about mid 11's on the 1/4 mile. im thinkinig about buying one but everyone is telling me all these different types of clips. which is best in YOUR opinion for my application. And is external wastegate best?

i plan on:

660 cc injectors
AFPR
255 HP Walbro Pump
Greddy Large FMIC
Greddy Type-S BOV
AEM fuel rail
SAFC
62mm TB (or) 1g TB

with all those, how much psi would be safe to run the 20g at and how much HP would that bring me to...about. :) thanx!

The HP that a GTech or Blitz reports is nothing like the HP reported at the wheels by a real Dynojet. When your car ran 109mph, it was probably putting down around 285-310whp assuming your car weighs around 3000lbs. I have dynoed a few DSMs putting down right around 300whp on a Dynojet chassis dyno and they usually trap in the 107-109mph range.

There is a horsepower calculator on dsm.org It gives a more accurate estimate based on the weight of the car, the 1/4 mile trap speed and 1/4 ET. But it's still just an estimate.

codeGSX, Ludachris already answered your question dude...theres no need to double post this!

Are there any other downsides besides loss of top end. I am just looking for a little quicker spool time.
