Well I was an idiot....again. Heres the deal. Im still in highschool and Im a senior, so of course I decided to go ditch a day of school with my friends :notgood: Well we are driving along just talking and we go to a different town about 25 minutes away. Supposedly this town (Fairfield) has a daytime curfew from 830-130 so a cop pulled us over when he saw teens driving. My friend who was driving and I both got tickets for truancy since we are not 18 yet. Im not going to try and weasle out of this and I know its my fault and all that, but there was one thing I was curious about. I have heard that you can write a letter to the county court instead of actually going or something like that? Because I really dont want to have to drive over there with my mom and do all that. If I can do this, how would I go about doing it? Sorry Im just confused on the whole subject, thanks a lot. :sosad:

A day time curfew.??? Are you serious, hahah I have never heard of such a thing. I dont really have an answer for you but that sounds ridiculous to have a curfew in the middle of the afternoon.

Did you know about the curfew before you went there? If so then you are an idiot. If they have the curfew, which is pretty rare they are obviously going to enforce it.

If you didn't know about it though then that sucks. I never heard or writing a letter, most of the time you get it dropped or go to court.

Haha a daytime curfew, that is ridiculous. I didn't even know you could get a ticket for truancy. God I would have so many.

Never heard of a day time curfew, but I know the cops can arrest / ticket you as they please. Ditching school is against the law, and can get your parents in a lot of trouble, I should know. You can write in as a trial by decleration, but I don't know if it applies to this situation, I only used it for a ticket I got for speeding before.

Yeah I had never heard of a daytime curfew either, to me its pretty crazy. I guess in Fairfield they have a really bad gang problem so this was their last resort (teacher from my school told me this after I was caught)

But yeah, trial by declaration thats what I was talking about. What does this involve??? I really have no idea about the process.

LESSON???

Next time I ditch Im just going to stay in Napa :toobad:

Wow. A daytime curfew? I would LOVE for a cop to issue that. It's not right in so many ways, especially in the daytime. ROFL ROFL ROFL

Tell them you were going out to lunch or needed a medication to get through the day. Try having your mom vouch for that too. TRUST ME, I just graduated and BARELY went to school. I was crowned "most likely not to be in class" for senior superalatives. Other then that, I dont know what to tell you. I'm on the east coast and have never heard of that kinda stuff... Good Luck though.

Yeah I was going to see if my mom would excuse me from the truancy, but my parents are the type who let me suffer just so I can learn my lesson. Im hoping that I just get a fine, because I really dont want to serve community service or something like that over there. :(

The cop also called our school and told them what was going on. So I went back and had a nice saturday school waiting for me. I dont care about that though. Court is such a bit<h, and I can only imagine that it will suck even more going to one in a different county.

Only in mother effing california.... Damn hippy state.

Thats rediculous. Anyway, on the back of your ticket (or the front... depends on teh ticket) it will say what options you have. Usually its either a mandated court apperance (I wouldn't think this would be one of those cases) in which case you just have to go to court. the other more normal options are similar to a speeding ticket. Either you accept responsibility/plead guilty and pay the fine, you accept responsibilty/guilty with an explanation (letter like you were talking about) or deny responsibilty/not guilty which means you will go to your court date.

read all of the ticket, and then call the court and have them explain it to you. obviously since I can't see the ticket, I can't tell you exactly how it has to be handled. If it goes on your driving record (can't see that it would) get a lawyer. If it is just a 100$ fine or less, just pay it and drive through that shitty city right when you turn 18 with a big middle finger to all the cops, while you're still in highschool skipping classes.

Under tha age of 18 your mother will have to go to court for you if it is trancy court. Good luck whith mom and dad. I am a parent and if My kids cause Me to have to go to court for something I did not do, It would be the end of freedom as they know it.
Mike

Hey that raises a good question... Can you flip off a cop?? I meen politically, it's freedom of speech, and it's a gesture inflicting no harm to them. I can see them pulling you over and giving you a hard time, but other then that you can't LEGALLY get in trouble for it, can you?

Well as soon as they pull you over, im sure they'll find something to ticket you for.

so its probably a good idea not to do so.

Yea, pushing your luck will have another " I hate Cops because I flipped one off" thread started.
Mike

here in colorado if you flip off a cop you can get a ticket for assulting an officer (happend to my friend in denver a unmarked cop car cut him off so he honked and gave him the finger next thing we know we are being pulled over and the cop is telling us that he can give us a ticket)

Well I will be sure to stay out of CO, and just chill where I am :D.
Mike
But on a serious note...here in CO They will make up chit to get you for. You can fight it, but not too common to win, they need revenue too.

wow, Fairfield is not a good city to leisuring through, 5 people got shot 2 days ago in broad daylight, and 3 days prior someone was stabbed to death in a 99cent store. They do have a day time curfew because a lot of High School students were ditching. Security will kick you out of the mall even. Oh and have fun going to the court house. My older brother was mugged at gun point by a crack head.

Simply put, the courts and lawmakers are making it a very tough rule on going to school. If school is in session, alot of places will try to make sure that no school age chdren are out and about to detere people from dropping out. Home school is leagal in the US, but if you do so you are expected to be at home learning. It is to try and curb the drop out rate. And making parents pay is the best way to make it happen. You are not going to be in the least bit of trouble for ditching, it is Mom or Dad that will be reamed in court. The second semester here, they passed a new law staing that even more than 2 unexcused absences in a month will result in parents being summond to court.
Mike

my advise would be go to court before u get a warrant issued for ## arrest it doesnt matter how old u are u will have a warrant issued for fta thats failure to appear trust me those are a pain ive had one and i regret missing court by 20min

You were sick, taking the day off, driving to Grandmas house so she would take care of you. Your friends just needed a ride and lived on the way.

The city of Cleveland has had this for years. Here it's a fine but there's a mandatory court appearance. YMMV.

That is so recockulous that I can't even begin to understand what goes through peoples heads.... What about people who drop out of highschool? what about going out to lunch, while in highschool? what about going to a doctors or dentist appointment during those hours?

Honestly thats just retarded... Hell, what about funerals and other such things? :toobad: :toobad:
