Im going to be moving to New York in like 3 or 4 months i was wondering if new york has emissions testing and if so what are the requirements. :thumb: thanks

I used to live in NY and they have emissions/inspection test once every year. It was $14 for your inspection but it may be more now. If your engine throws a single code you fail. Lights, horn, breaks, tires, windsheild wipers, turnsignals, ect. They have it posted in every shop that is athurized to do inspections.

Man that would really suck. Good thing I live in FL with no emmission checks

If you eliminated your cat, you will fail as well. As soon as you get here, you better find someone (Who knows someone). If you get what I mean. Its around $40 pass OR fail. They can fail you for anything.

No it's $90 to pass :D

Its not as easy anymore, all the cars registered in NY are now linked to the DMV database in Albany. My brothers still lives there and he tells me its getting harder to "find someone" because the penatly's are getting huge. He was "the guy" you could talk to for a sticker.

On another note if your from out of state dont go speeding through NY. If you are tagged they can tax you for it. They send you a bill (up to $300) every year, they claim you are a risk to there motorways. I believe Texas has the same law.

Agreed Ny inspections suck. Its nearly impossible to "find someone" nowadays because everything is linked to the DMV and done by computer. If your car is OBD-II theres pretty much no way around it. They are still some exemptions but it's rough.

wow i guess im gonna have to spend some money to get it done i have no cat, whenever i floor it , it puts out alot of black smoke and fire, fire is mostly in between shifts, just got a ticket for that cop said it was at least a 2ft flame :notgood: if anyone knows someone ;) :shhh: let me know through pm ill be moving to queens in the hillside/jamaica area but i will travel to keep my stuff :thumb:

its a pretty simple matter, if you have a 1g there are no emissions laws because they are more then 10 years old, and if you have a 2g you cant have any dash lights going off and you need to pass the emissions test, however it is once a year and you can have some people pass you even if you fail the emissions test, its not as easy as it used to be, but not impossible to do. Just be careful and dont waste your money failing a bunch of tests, i think it was 17 dollars for my test in august.

if i were to keep my florida tags, registration and insurance woukd i still have to do that?

Yea ny is gettting tougher, but i dont have a cat and i still pass, just dont go to a main place like, mavis, dealership ect casue they jack your car up,i go to this citgo gas station place and pass every year, you just can't pass with a cel light on.

No becuase my rear 02 sensor is still in. Is yours?

im not sure where is it at? there seems to be something connected to the exhaust but not connected to the car

I'm learning about the ny inspection in my auto class right now, i'm pretty sure it's 20 or 21 dollars or something, if you have any specific questions, i can ask my teacher. The queens is part of the new york metropolitan area, right. If it is, they have stricter emmissions, and put you through a load test, your car goes on rollers and they use the sniffer. This load test ends this year though, so just make sure you don't have to go through it. Good luck in NY
