Okay, I don't have the rep points to post this in the turbo forum, so I'll do it here.

I wouldn't be suprised if someone has done this already, but I didn't find anything like it in a forum search.

My 2G talon has a blank in one of the dash buttons (my guess is that it was for the sun/moonroof option that I didn't get when I bought the car in October, 1996).

I can't resist the temptation to add a button in this location and wire a dual stage boost controller (like the TurboXS Dual Stage MBC) switch to it.

So what I need is a spare dash switch (they are the same shape, so maybe any of those rounded-parallelogram-buttons will work - like a defroster button from a junkyard find). I'm no electrical engineer, but I would hope that this could be adapted.

Next step: clean off the stock text from the switch and replace it with the word, "Oomph!" I'm not sure how to get a clean graphic on the button in matching (or maybe contrasting red) paint, but having the same font, etc. would be killer. Of course, other creative folk can come up with a different graphic for the button.

So the idea is to select your high boost controller setting with "Oomph!" depressed, and your normal, rush-hour traffic, lower boost controller setting with "Oomph!" non-depressed. When you want/need more oomph, press the "Oomph!" button, dummy!

I am a true "sleeper" fan, so having a button that blends perfectly into the stock background is extremely appealing to me.

I also have some ideas for a spare panel for extra gauges, but I have to search the forum and do a bit more proof-of-concept-investigation to make sure that the ideas are new and will work before I post them.

If anyone goes off and does this (before I do), post a picture of the result (and give me some rep points so that I can post on the other forums like a man;) ). If someone else has posted this already, forgive my forum-search-retardation, inform me of my blunder, and give the link to the thread. Then I can atleast see how someone else did it and may learn something handy about the idea.

i had the same idea, but unfortunately you can't just add a new button. you have to have a whole new harness. 1 harness for all three buttons. from the dealer, it is around 700-800. some cars come with 3 buttons, so your goal is to find one in a junk-yard that has all three. good luck.

did you have to buy a new harness? how did you do it. i haven't heard anything about it except what the guy at the dealership told me.

edit. i got a little too excited there and didn't read the post carefully. nevermind.

i've heard for a dual stage, you have to have it tuned for high and low. my dejon tool med./hi. dual stage b.c. is in the mail, so i haven't had any experience with it yet. just what i've heard.
Well what do you tune with? I have a SAFCI so there is only one setting for me, if you have a SAFCII then you could setup a low and high since there are two maps you can save. You would have to flip your switch for boost and then change the SAFC setting.

FYI, the third button isn't for the stock sun roof. The sun roof controls are on the roof.

diamondstar, that's a good point. i have no idea how they do it, and either way, it would defeat the purpose of having 2 boost settings at the flip of a switch if you had to change the safc too.

travis, do you know what the third button is for? the dealership told me it can be for "fog lights or something else". WTF? i thought fog light switches were off to the left. idk.

No one seems not know what the third button is for. Fog lights are on the left side of the seering wheel, and sunroof is on the headliner. It may have been an option for the Avenger or Siebring, as they share the same interior.

after searching through 25 pages of interior pics, i found a guy who installed a 2nd hazard button on the bottom. he said he just "wired it in". i'm going to ask him to post in here and tell us how he did it.

Yeah Im not too sure what the bottom button on the left side of the steering whel is for, but mine has the button but it isnt attached to anything, Ive heard of some people hooking underglow up to the button, but Im a sleeper kind of DSMer and think that neons are ###, and I have to :tease: at ricers with them. If you had a DSMLink or SAFCII like someone else saying then you could just switch between high boost setting and normal everyday boosting...if you have access to a cutting ploter then you could have the text cut for you then you stick it to the button...did it on my 4 wheeler when I ripped the "YAMAHA" off of one of the fenders and it looked perfect.

If I remember correctly no 2g ever came with the 3rd button, it came in the sebring/avenger as they share some interior parts. The 3rd button in those cars was for the heated leather. Im not 100% on that but I saw a thread about it about a year ago.

I'm pretty sure you can take out the cover and pop the switch in. I installed a switch where my foglight switch is supposed to be if I ever had those and it was just a plastic fill in piece that covered the hole. Just run your own wires to it when you figure out how to wire it to your boost controller.

I heard it was for the heated leather seat button as well. Maybe someone with a sebring/avenger can chime in and confirm!?

Every Sebring/Avanger I looked at has it set up like this.

YOu guys dont have to worry about the different boost levels and AFC. The AFC makes its corrections based off of airflow not how many PSI your pushing. As a matter of fact its recommended you tune at a slightly lower PSI than you plan on running. So I say go for the switch. Goodluck.

I thought I remembered reading somewhere that it was fog lights for the sebring/avenger, but then again that wouldn't really make sense because why wouldn't their fog switch be in the same place as ours? The heated seat switch definitely sounds like a possibility, either way our cars never came with a button there. I also remember reading that thread where someone got an extra hazard button from a junk yard and wired it into that spot would definitely be nice to get some input from him.

Wow. Woke this thread up from the dead. Thanks for the info!

I imagine it's do-able, then. Just get a button from the junkyard, clean off the lettering, add your own, and wire in the boost controller switch outside of the factory harness. I'm still uncertain about the wiring details to get the light that is built into the button to function properly, etc.

could it be traction control for the GSX's? I no some manuels come with that options not sure about the Eclipes tho...

I agree that the low fuel trims shouldnt change but a correct tune for 20psi and 12psi are going to be different and if you switch between the two boost levels arent you changing the airflow?

After some reading and discussion, maybe you should tune your car at the boost level you want to run. Sorry for the missinformation

me too. i've now looked at well over 200 sebrings/avengers and have yet to see one with the 3rd button.
