Whatever you do, do not use that method for installation. I'm the one Pinder is referring too. I had a correctly working Cyclone setup on my 2g 6bolt swap setup. Two words describe it quite well: "Torquey bi***"...ask anyone that has driven/ridden in my car.

Tomorrow when I get some time I'll write up a "how to" that will finally set the record straight on a proper install and the various ways you can get it to work right. I will post a reply in this thread as well as an article in the tech section. I promise I will get this done. Pinder will bi*** me out if I dont anyways since I've said I'd do it for a while.

Trust me when I say this: for a street driven DSM (which 95% of the people on this board are), you cannot go wrong with a cyclone. Period. End of discussion.

All the myths and bull$hit people post on here are because:

A. they don't know what they are talking about
B. they read someone else's post where they too didn't know what they were talking about
C. hate or bash when they have probably never even seen one in person
D. didn't get it insalled right
E. don't understand the real benefits

99.9% of the time its A + B + C or D + E.

Cya tomorrow, gotta get some sleep before work.

hey thanks a lot for going through the trouble... and i would totally 100% agree with you!

Good topic discussion here, I never knew all the perks to the cyclone previosly. Thanks to everyone here for their input.

Thanks for posting that Brandon... you know after this the price will go up because everyone will want one. Guess I need to start shopping. LOL

How many out there are running the Cyclone manifold? Do you actually see increased gas mileage? I am curious as to how blocking off air in lower RPM's will get you better fuel mileage.

Just wonder if that article is being worked on or whats up?

this should help

I think that the guy that came up with that set up said not to hook it up like that. He said he'll show a way how to hook it up but not to do it like that although that seems logical.

That diagram is actually correct, although it doesn'tt explain the other half of a correctly functioning cyclone setup: how to activate the actuator.

I'm working on finishing up my tech article as we speak, should have it up later on tonight. For some reason last night tuners wasn't working for me, btw. Pinder already got on my case, it'll get done.

I have a jdm 4g63 in my gsx and i was wondering if the cyclone manifold gives my car more power than with just a stock manifold? But i dont have a jdm ecu

thanks
john

jdm cyclone manifold is a genius idea for its time, it gives the best of both world....for example the 2g intake manifold is known to provide good midrange torque due to its runners, while the 1g intake manifold is known to sacrifice a little bit of midrange in order to make more top end power..the jdm cyclone is butterfly ports that stay closed in order to make the midrange torque but open at a certain rpm in order not to limit top end capacity.....there are certain things needed which i do not know of the top of my head to utilize this manifold correctly...nothing a search cannot find..good luck

The jdm cyclone intake manifold, if setup correctly and working correctly, gives you more low-midrange torque, a great thing for a streetable car.

I'm planning on seting mine up soon.

I Use a Cyclone and the extra torque is provides is great! like ^^^ said perfect for a daily driver.

thanks guys but what is a butterfly actuator and the white canister. Also what is that thing that the butterfly canister connects to? And is a boost controller solenoid the same thing as a boost controller?

thanks
john

I know how to properly set up my cyclone intake but where can i get the boost control solenoid (normally closed), fuel purge (normally open), and a hobbs pressure switch (5 psi)?

thanks
john

Just finished installing mine a few days ago. Considerable amount of extra torque, I can now drive the race clutched car just like its a normal street machine.

I'm trying to find where to get a vacuum (blue/white) canister for a Cyclone intake manifold that I picked up. I have no idea where I'd get one. If someone could point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it.

I feel it is my duty to post this and let people know that installing a cyclone intake is definitely worth the effort. If you do a search you will realize that the intake only really works if connected properly. You cannot control the butterflies with intake vacuum/boost alone. The cyclone is designed to have the butterflies transition from closed where intake charge is routed only thru the longer intake runners to open where both the long runners and the additional 4 shorter runners are all open together. When the butterflies are closed there is a considerable increase in low end torque.....Darn considerable! The butterflies need to be controlled in a manner that forces them to stay closed until about 3000-4000 rpm and a boost pressure of 4-7psi. If you do a search information is available as to how this can be accomplished. Basically you use a vacuum reservoir that holds the butterflies closed (even though you may be boosting a few psi) until engine management, or sensors of your own design vent the vacuum (via a solenoid) allowing the spring on the butterfly actuator to force them to the open position.
