Hey i'm getting my car tuned very soon, but before i do that I want to get a new exhaust manifold because mine has a slight crack in it, plus I want a bigger one. I have an evo III turbo fully ported, and I'm trying to decide between the EVO III manifold (ported) and the SBR Cast Manifold (ported). I found the evo manifold for 300$ and the sbr cast is 350$. Price really doesn't matter to me. I'm just trying to get your opinions about these two manifolds. Also, the sbr cast manifold comes with a tap for an egt gauge that you can cap if you don't have one (but I am eventually going to get one). And it also comes with a section for a tial wastegate that i can get drilled someday if i want, because i'm probably going to get a 20g in a year or two. I'm just not sure which to get.

here's the two manifolds:

Well if money isn't an issue, I would go for the sbr cast for the reasons you said. Tapped and ready to be gated. good luck either way.

When it comes to stock manifolds, you're not going to notice real difference with slightly larger runners, or all that bs. Take your 2g stock manifold, port it out a little and save your money. It takes a few seconds to tap a runner for egt's, but you should be using a wideband anyways.....

I agree completly. The 2g ported is more than enough than most of us need but he said he wants either sbr cast or evo3 cause money isnt an issue.

I bought a used 2g manifold and ported it myself for 20 bucks off ebay. This will be going on my 10 sec setup with an fp3065.

^^^ Best post in the thread. You don't need a fancy manifold in any case really, since a ported 2G is more than enough to get you a 10 second timeslip.

I swear, the manifold debate and question is probably the most overshot thing to do to a DSM. Buy a good, used 2G manifold for like $50 or less, port it, be happy. The only, and I mean ONLY real thing that makes the Evo III manifolds alot more enticing is the newer and stronger nickle cast they use.

Amen!. I report zero positive results w/ my EVO3 exhaust mani w/ my Small 16G and my TD05H 18G.

But she won't crack for nothin':rocks: !!!!

I have the new SBR Manifold. It looks great and has bigger runners than an EVO 3. Also has a section to go external one day if thats what you want to do. I love mine.

Even though I don't have a 2G mani anymore, there are many that have outstanding dynos and 1/4 times on the ported 2G, and even stock 2G manifold. If looks are the big deal to you, look at DNPerformances exhaust manifold. It's the same one I have on my car right now. Gorgeous as all hell, but if you get so much as a finger print on it, it's screwed. :(

Daryl Hudson (a NOPI driver and Local DSMer) went 9's on a ported 2g manifold, I think thats more than enough for anyone, and not to mention cheap.

OK, I agree with everyone that a ported 2g mani is more than enough. But that is not what the thread starter was asking.

If you are going to choose out of those two manifolds. Get the SBR you will not be disappointed. The SBR unported is bigger the the EVO ported. It also has a tap for an EGT also a flange for a Tial WG.

Hopes this helps, Stay boostin

I think SBRs external gate option makes it the best choice. Find out how much extra you would have to pay to get this done to a stock (evo/2g) or the cost of an o2 with the external on it.

Go with the SBR since money isn't the issue. It has bigger runners than the EVO III and performs better.

Agree 100%. I also have the SBR cast mani and I love it. More than enough flow, and its all ready for bigger turbo upgrades:thumb:

Do you have information to back that up, such as a dyno sheet?
It's my understanding that slowboy made over 700 on it with a holset.

This is my take on the situation, you can interpret it however you want; I think for a bolt on turbo a ported 2g is a great manifold for a ton of people on here. Its proven to allow people to run quick times at high MPHs and is reliable in terms of its durability. When you start looking at large t3 housings or t4 housings then you might want to consider a good manifold like a DNP or shearer. If you are full drag and are making serious power(+650) and trying to squeeze out the very last bit of power out of your setup then a custom equal length longtube header is probably the way to go.

Concisely seals the debate!!!:thumb:

ZigsGSX97, do you need a "big" exhaust many for your EVO3 16G?

How big do you plan on going? You need a plan to need to go this big.

The slowboy manifold is obviously a fantastic manifold. Now only if they would come out with a cast manifold for our cars in a t3 or t4 pattern;)

i want a big exhaust manifold for my ported evo III turbo. Some day, within the next year or two, i want to get a 20g. But before then i want to do engine internals, so that's why i upgraded to the EVO III before the 20g

Its not necessary. A big exhaust manifold wont do anything for a little 16g. 20g isn't even a big turbo. You wont need "upgraded internals" for that turbo.

I ran 30psi on my stock motor on my 60-1 turbo. With a stock manifold too. Save your money for something else that you really need.

I agree completely. Your money would be better spent elsewhere.

I wish I'd have known all this before I got my SBR manifold, regardless, I do now have the option of an external wg. and I'm happy about that, since welding a flange to cast iron can be tricky.
