Find a muffler shop to custom make it for you..why does everybody think that they HAVE to buy their exhaust online??

^^^I think people are just too lazy to actually find a shop and then go there to get it done

back on topic...I agree with ^^^ just have a muffler shop make a custom one for you. It'll probably be cheaper anyways

Get an RS-R. Its the best ive ever owned... seen... and listeded to. Its very silent and sounds like a jet engine almost.

Well budd, No ofense to you or your NT LASER... but if you're looking for performance, basically any muffler will do just fine, unless you have lots of crazy mods done to it then you have to worry about a nice mandrel bent exhaust system.

Now if you're just looking for a good sounding exhaust, well go to eBay and buy a muffler, whatever your taste may want, remember ebay its not only for cheap stuff... but you can find brand names in there, get you a nice Apexi, Magnaflow, Borla, HKS, Greddy, 5Zigen or "fireball" muffler of your choice, ride down to your local muffler shop and it shouldn't be much for have them weld it in place, wether you want full piping or just the muffler thats going to depend on your budget.

Good luck.

Custom 2.5" MAX. Nothing bigger, or you'll be losing a great deal of torque. You'll be losing a small amount as it is, seeing as you are n/a. As said above, grab mulffler of choice, then get exhaust shop to custom build a system to your taste.

If Money Is Not A Factor, Go With An Apexi. They Sound Perfect, Not To Loud, But Still Sporty.

custom cat-back is the way to go. put a short glasspack right after the muffler, then either use a "fireball" style muffler, or let the shop put on their "no name" chambered muffler with a tip that you like. shouldn't run any more than 225 or so total.

i just had a true dual 2.5" put on the 86' caprice that have turndowns right before the rear axle with chambered mufflers for $200 out the door.

so yoloose hp if you have a fat pipe on a NA? I have the standard 2.5 with headers and a muffler. BUt if i happen to upgrade it to 3 in i would loose power? Just tryin to get things straight.

I thought bigger was better maybe i am wrong in this case.

2.5 in is just fine for a NA. I have a turbo and my exhaust is a 2.5 which is more then i will need.

Then why do you always hear about people putting custom 3 in exhaust on?

Ok. Here we go.
A naturally aspirated four cyllinder car does not need anything above 2.5 inches because 3in exhaut causes a large drop in backpressure thus creating performace problems and even bad idle in some cases.
A turbo car with under 280-300 hp will not benefit from anything larger than 2.5 but people still put in 3 so when they get over 300 hp they dont have to get a new exhaust done. My car will not go past 300 so i dont need 3in. A turbo car also does not need backpressure so the bigger you get the better but sometimes its overkill if a car will not be pushed over 300 or so.
Dont listen to people who get 3 in exhaust for NAs. Its not worth it.

Hope this explains it.
Anton

Oh yeah, if you get 3 in crush bent it will flow closer to 2.5 in mandrel. Just so you have that in mind of you go to a muffler shop.

2.5 even seems like overkill to me for a n/a car. My friends AE86 is running 2.25 and thats fine. :talon:

if you want to get technical about it, you don'tactully "lose" power with a huge exhaust on a N/A car, it simply changes your power curve. typicly any upgrade in exhaust diamater will make both HP and torque.

ok, i'm going to simplify it for everyone. say our cars made these numbers with a stock 2" exhaust:
75ft/lbs @2000RPM
100ft/lbs @3000RPM
125ft/lbs @4000RPM
150ft/lbs @5000RPM

Same car, only difference being a larger exhaust, the power might be
50ft/lbs @2000RPM
90ft/lbs @3000RPM
145ft/lbs @4000RPM
175ft/lbs @5000RPM

now these aren't real world figures or anything, but you get the point right?

So the fatter the exhaust the bigger the top end. And the NT tranny has a higher top end gear ratio. Hmmmm Just put 2 an 2 together.

Jeff

It really depends on the car. Look, if you reduce backpressure on a N/A car, you will lose a little torque in the low RPM range and, if you're lucky, gain some HP in the higher RPM range. If by increasing the diameter of the exhaust you decrease the amount of work the engine has to do to expel the exhaust fumes, the more power the engine will make. But at a certain point (dependant upon how much combustion is taking place) you will see no gains whatsoever from going bigger with the exhaust.

It all depends on how restrictive the orginal exhaust was and how well matched the engine management is to that exhaust. Some cars, like the S2000 have found a net-loss with some aftermarket exhausts and no other mods because the car is very well tuned to the factory exhaust.

Long story short, a 2.25 mandrel bend exhaust with a straight-through style muffler would probably be the best choice for a N/A eclipse.

not quite, the exhaust could also make it so the power goes away sooner....
