I would ask that anyone who is disappointed with the NASCAR to EVERYTHING ELSE ratio on Speed TV of late go to this page and let them know. Spread the word before Speedvision just changes is name again - to NASCAR TV. (Like we need any more of it.)

Thanks.

To whom,

It has been brought to my attention that Speed Channel has no plans to cover the 2006 World Rally Championship (WRC) series. I am writing to express my dissatisfaction at this news. Surely, there is at least one NASCAR program which can be eliminated or cut short in the interest of providing your subscribers with REAL motorsport. This channel was once the greatest thing since sliced bread, but now it seems it is no longer interested in catering to the car guy so much as it is in cashing in on the redneck cash cow otherwise known as NASCAR.

There are fans out here in the real world of cars and motorsports, like me, who will still write in the hopes of seeing more true motorsport and less NASCAR garbage on Speed Channel, despite knowing that, since our comments don't align well with the new marketing plan of the channel, we will simply be brushed off with a form letter thanking us for our time, but we will write, regardless, and share our dissatisfaction with our peers.

In that case, a message for the bean counters: the more NASCAR is shown on Speed Channel, the more of your greatest advocates will be turning their back on you and walking away. Quit catering to the lowest common denominator.

Innovate. Lose the NASCAR. Promote REAL motorsports for REAL people.

Thank you,

Where did you see that story. I've been on there site but can't find it.

well if all of 3 people in the US watch WRC over millions that watch Nascar........

theres 2 auto sports that are huge overseas that arent jack shit here, thats WRC and F1/Indy. hardly any americans like rally racing cause its a little car instead of a truck(after all, we americans love monster trucks). we dont like F1 cars cause theyre high pitched and annoying, and nothing to them, an engine, a chassis, and 4 wheels. we like big motors and cars that race at 200mph and still resemble a car.

now i like to watch wrc every so often, not much into the open wheel stuff, but hey, if their ratings are showing a whole lot more people watch nascar than wrc, then its only obvious theyre gonna can it, like every other network does when a show isnt getting ratings. maybe if wrc did more to promote the sport over here, it might be a different story.

I saw some stuff on the speedtv forums saying that a european company that Speed TV gets its feeds from(and hacks up) has not signed a WRC contract yet either.

Also on Nicky Grist's website he says he has not been rehired by speed.

Im still very sad every time this topic pops up. I hate NASCAR with a passion.

Its so pathetic that they won't cover rally. There are so many rally series and so many fans that I can't imagine it not at least getting an hour a week or something. Even late hours. Oh well I guess I'll just have to go on the internet to catch any useful news about rally and other racing like that.

SpeedTV went to crap when it stopped being Speedvision. Yes, racing diesel truck tractors is absurd, but I'd watch it long before I'd watch the brats of NASCAR, or the nauseating Pinks and that pack.
But they also don't cover SCCA Pro Rallye and dozens of other local events that are terrific motorsport. After seeing what American television has done to football and NASCAR, I'm not sure that's a bad thing.

How much NASCAR can there be? Good God!!! All you have to know is go fast, turn left. That's pretty much it. I'll take drag racing and any type racing that the "little guy" still has a chance in. I have to hunt like Hell to find Shep or Brent Rau on NOPI. I must be old as there's an awful lot of things that don't pertain to racing. Anyway, it's a shame that so much time is wasted there.

Someone should just start over and make a new channel for automotive enthusiasts.

Gonna have to say, though, they need to keep that show where the trucks and vans and stuff race while pulling shit behind them on a trailer. LOL

Or is that SpikeTV?

They called that VH1 and it's as bad if not worse than the channel it was originally competing with ROFL

An analogy, but still apt. :)

I don't understand Speed TV. Before I cancelled my service there was snowmobile drag racing on grass drag strips with the burt out announcer Paul Page. After suffering a full hour of that B.S. to watch "auto racing" next, I was greated with BUBBA Joes circle track extravoganza. WTF!!!! Two minutes later, I no longer had Speed TV. I think we can all agree NASCAR is pretty much the most skillless form of professional racing there is, but it strikes a cord with public. Speed should make a Speed2 kinda like MTV did when they stopped showing music vidoes. If they did that and showed more open wheel/rally/DTM/le Mans/ANYTHING OTHER CIRCLE TRACK RACING, I would buy it in a heart beat. I have almost lost interest in most of my favorite series of racing because it is never on TV. The race cars in NASCAR are so primative compared to the rest of the race series out there....I just don't get it ??????

If WRC programming was aired in a primetime slot, that would be understandable. If it was even aired on a weekend afternoon, that would be understandable. But it airs at 11 pm on a Sunday night. What ratings are they fighting for? Are they trying to pull fans of Adult Swim, or some talking head on Fox or CNN? Or some soft porn on Cinemax?

WRC and F1 fans already have to suffer through waking up at weird hours of the night to watch televised coverage of their events. Whatever adverstising money they're potentially losing becaue they can't stuff one more oval racing event or Texas Hardtails or 2ooner Transformation episode in there can't be that much. It's not going to kill them to continue to cover WRC events.

NASCAR is a huge self sustaining operation. They have the extra resources available to cover an event like this. For speed or anyone else to say that it won't be covered becuse they can't pull enough ratings is, in my opinion, horseshit.

I bet you I hate NASCAR more........I grew up in redneckville, and I still live here, and NASCAR is bad here, NASCAR is god to most here.....grrrrr.....ok I'm gonna stop before I get really pissed.

that has got to be one of the most closed minded remarks ive ever seen. i dont see you driving around at 200mph for 4 hours at a time. 3 wide, mere inches from your opponents, not only driving a v8 taching at 8k the whole time.

it strikes a cord with the public cause they like it. this is america, we love our v8's and our circle track racing. and being the capatilastic economy we are, were gonna can what doesnt get ratings, and show more of what does. hell people ####ing hate reality tv, but its still getting the ratings more than any other show, so theyre gonna keep pumping them out.

maybe you can make your own network and show the stuff that nobody watches, but everyone says they love so much.

They canned the Dakar rally so I didnt have my ususal New years racing event :(, it sucks that the network would do something like that, but well like someone said before Americans like their Nascar. Just search http://video.google.com/ or torrent websites for WRC coverage, or if you really want sign up on www.wrc.com for premium content and get it direct.

Simple solution.... stop selling alcohol at Nascar events.

Nascar will die a swift death without drunken rednecks, sober rednecks will get bored and move on.

that shirt is sweet.

i'll be ordering one for myself.

stupid NASCAR.

mind you, i recognize the skill entailed in driving a car at blistering speeds inches away from the guy next to you.

however, i dont recognize the interest in watching this on tv and watching them drive in half a thrillion circles.

I've seen topics on all sorts of enthusiast oriented forums about people disgusted with Speed's programming. The thing is, even though the internet brings enthusiasts together, we're still in the minority compared to the people that watch Nascar, or worse yet, the people that watch bull**** like Unique Whips.

pretty soon we'll see the World Rodeo championships on SpeedTV as well.

i vote we just change the name to "InbredTV"
