the engine is making a very weird ticking noise. it is rpm based, as it grows louder and more frequent with more rpms. it doesn't make the noise after warming up the car for 35 or more minutes. I usually let it warm up 10 minutes, which gives it about 1/3 of the stock temp gauge needle.

I popped my hood to see what was wrong, and I thought my spark plug wires were loose because the one closest to the passenger seemed to not be all the way down. I applied some pressure to it with the engine on and it felt as if something was hitting the bottom of the boot, turned the car off and took the boot out, it still looks mint (put new wires in about 2500 miles ago)

WTF is going on?

It could be your lifters. They are pretty well known for being noisy bastards. Mine make noise off and on, and always have. :notgood: You might try some of Lucas' Oil Stabilizer. I'l throw some in every other oil change and it seems to keep them quiet for a while.

Lifter tick. It shouldn't become a problem, unless the noise really irritates you. Run better oil or replace the lifters with the third generation revised lifters. They have larger oil passages and get rid of the tick. Other people on here have done it and say it quiets right down. I'm doing mine this spring or summer.

I thought lifter tick was just a problem for the 4g63?

Anyone know of a guide to how to change them? DO I have to take off the head?
