Does anyone know for sure what picture 4 is yet on the firewall? I have a 95 and mine also had those wires unplugged and almost hidden back there. Nice info here though.

If everyone following this thread gives me one rep point, I'll post the answer . . . LOL

Actually I just went down and checked mine (97 GST) and those two are not plugged into anything from the factory. They are actually electrical tape -ed to the main harness that runs along the firewall. . . .

Well, I know it has been awhile, but I got everthing in and finally got some time to work on her. I tried to crank it this evening (midnight) and got no spark or fuel... :barf:
DSMlink had a DTC for the crankshaft sensor malfunction. If my CAS is bad, would I get a code for both Cam and Crank or does the ECU reference the crankshaft sensor first and since it didn't "see" it I only received that code?
The CAS is a green top eBay-ed for $30. Could be a bad one I guess? I wired according to method 2 and soldered my connections.
You guys have any other thoughts? I have a spare CAS from a 90 junkyard car with no plug on the end that I could try tomorrow after work....man I was wanting to hear that open downpipe!!!!

Nite,
MM

triple-check the wiring. Make sure all the connections are good, and make sure you wired the 1G CAS into the wiring harness and not back into the 2g Cranksensor....I've actually heard of that happening. Good luck and I hope you get it started soon! :thumb:

Yeah, definitely go back over your wiring with a fine-toothed comb . . . Only time I get that DTC is when I unplug the CAS harness from where the old CPS used to plug into the main harness (I.E., the simulated CPS portion of the CAS is no longer making it to the ECU).

CAS- Cam Angle Sensor
CPS- Crank Position Sensor

Good luck!

Started going over the wires...and it starts to pour!! It hasn't rained here in almost a month and a half, and then.....boom...the night i get back in town to look things over and it pours :notgood:
I guess I'll take a look tomorrow...although I did find my extra CAS from the junkyard car (out at Payes) and a connector to solder on.
tsunari with DSMlink and my complete 1G head/block in there, what order do my plugs go on the 90 model coils (90 coils with the 95 coil wiring harness on them)?

And one last question should the "Invert CAS" option in DSMlink be activated?
Thanks guys and I'll let yall know..

For my '97, I had to swap Plugs 1&2 and 3&4 and also Invert the CAS . . . being a 95 . . . I think you only need to swap the plug wires. Good Luck

If you used method 2 and DID NOT switch around the injector firing order via changing the pinout at the ECU then you should turn on the INVERT CAS, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Secondly, I found out what that blue connector is by the throttle cable box....its called an "engine speed detection connector" and according to my Chilton's manual you can use it as part of a make-shift diagnostic tool when doing idle speed adjustments. (PAGE 1-52, figure 155, in CHILTON MITSU ECLIPSE 90-98 Repari Manual)

Changed out the CAS this evening and it cranked right up!! I have a few small kinks to work out like setting the timing and might have to much fuel pressure cause once it warmed up, the O2 volts slowly climbed to 1v, but it does crank!!

No, I did not changed the injector pinout at the ECU, and like you said I DO need to invert the CAS signal via DSMlink which I found out from the DSMlink forum for sure.

Now a question....how tight to the touch should the top of the timing belt be? After it started and i got through running around making sure nothing was leaking and whatnot, I noticed a slight (for lack of better words) vibration of the belt in-between the cams. After shutting it off, I could deflect the belt 1/4" or more without much effort at all.
It is a brand new belt, and I put it on out of the car. I set the tensioner and checked it to be in spec (after the 2nd attempt) and then I let it sit for a bit, turned the motor over by hand for however any rotations the VFAQ says to do and let it sit for a good 45mins and recheck it. It had hardly moved at all and was still in spec so I called it a day.
What do you guys think?
