Well I have been meangin to get to the track for quite a while now but somethign stupid alwasy came up and kept me from being able to make it. Now that the last three test and tune days of the season are happening I figured I was going to make it no matter what. So I get the car ready pick up the slicks and head for the track.

My first couple of runs I was just getting destroyed. I was running 23psi in the slicks and just couldn't cut a good 60ft or put the power to the ground through second gear. My first four runs were as follows 14.2, 14.7,14.3, followed by another 14.3. I just about packed up my shit and left them I was running these times with the t25 let alone a my current setup. Well I was worred about snapping an axle and get stuck 2.5hours away from my house but I said #### it I have to turn a good time or I am going to be pissed. I went back to my car and lowered the tire preasure from 23psi to 19psi. I imediately saw a huge difference as when I looked at my timeslip I had just ran a [email protected]. I was still having huge traction issues with spinning them through second.

By this time the weather had started to cool down and it looked as if it was about to rain so I ran back to the lanes to get some more runs in before I left. This time I had the tire presure to 14-15psi. I pull up to the lights do my nice burnout to get the tires warm. Stage, 5k on the 2step at 8psi. I launched hard it felt really good this time. Seeing that 1st gear is useless in my car I just try to get it over with as soon as possible I hit second obliterate the slicks, I modulate the gas a bit to try and get my speed to where it should be for the rpms that I am at in second gear. Hit third hard, shift to fourth right before the traps. The run felt good but I was still pissed that I was spinning the tires still. I get back to where everyone is hanging out and my fiance tells me I got a [email protected]. I was pretty happy but I was still hoping for better The trap speed deffinately shows I have some room for impovement so I am going to try out some new sespension and see how it goes.

Whoa! Good stuff Zach :thumb: . I actually been hitting 14s too (No slicks) I have a pretty good setup and I should be breaking the 13s easily but I can't because my 60' is 2.6 and I have horrible wheel hop so I change gears from 1st to 2nd at about 5k RPMs.

I haven't tried to launch at 5k, would you suggest trying it with street tires? I have tried 1.5k - 2.5k RPMs launching and it either bogs or wheel hop. My trap is 103. This are the results from wed night drag at Infineon (I went last wed) and I plan to go again this wed to practice launching and gain a better 60' and hit 13s. I have Potenza S-03 tires 225/50ZR16 and had 22psi on the tires when I ran. Would you suggest anything?

Hitting 12s with spinning tires is still really good and it looks like you can probably hit 11s with a good really launch. Good job Zach :thumb:

Thanks bro, I am happy but I still wish I hit some better times. Next year though after the meth injection. As for launchign you car I can't say I would recomend launching at 5k with street tires. It all depends really on where your turbo hit full boost by. On my t25 I would launch at 3k and be fine. I tried that with street tires and my 50 trim and I would bog really bad and then spin the tires. try around 4kish and slip the cluth like mad. Almost like you are lauchign an awd. If you bog bring up the launch rpm and slip the clutch more. if you spin bring down the launch rpm.

Oh and I wouldn't worry about pulling good short times at sears point on wed. The track prep is horrible at best. To really see some good times you need to go to a test and tune. Either at sac or sears.

Those are some damn good numbers Zach. :thumb:

Are you running tubes in those slicks?

I know what you mean about 1st being worthless. Even Dan spun through 1st running my old slicks. We first tried his tire pressure at 20, then 16, and finally 14. When spring rolls around, we are going to experiment with sub-10 psi.

A local buddy and customer of mine runs 8 psi in his and he says anything more or less will slow him down.

Paul, no tubes. I think that if I lowered the psi a couple more pounds it might have helped a bit but I didn't want to push my luck that day with snapping an axle and it looked like it was about to start raining and changing out to street tires in a downpour was not top priority on my list. Next year we will see though. My buddy was telling me he didn't think I was getting enough heat into them. I thought I was doing quite the burnout but I guess not  . I need to adjust my ebrake because it doesn't have enough clamping force and I would just pull through it doing my burnout. Next year though will be the unveiling of the meth injection and some new experiments with the slicks.

I don't think I need larger diameter slicks yet as I still had a coupld grand worth of rev range in 4th but maybe some wider slicks are in order.

very nice runs, and those are some nice trap's :thumb:

thanks bro it about damn time I see some good numbers I have been working on this car for quite some time now.

Zach, congrats. I will get my 12 sec slip next season. I came very close this year but didn't go back to the track. My slick def. helped, I went from running a 14.1 @ 104 to a 13.0 @ 110mph. That was on a very rich low end tune then a lean top end, due to my internal WG and boost creeping, forcing me to feather the gas!. I now have Comp 101200 cams and also want to invest in a Meth injection along w/ a external WG setup to hold steady boost so I can finally invest in a proper tune! I also plan on getting a rear setup of shocks/springs to help w/ squating. I hope to achieve low 2 sec, or high 1.8 or 1.9 sec 60' times, and along w/ a proper tune, etc, I can get mid to low 12's.

very nice man...solid 12.5s is great for a fwd

next time put the pressure at like 10-12psi, serious, and watch it grab 2nd gear with no spin, you could get low 12s I think

My goal is 12s with my drag radials

Thanks bro, the slicks helped so much its not funny. The meth injection will help alot as well because you not only cool the intake charge but you are adding octane its almost like running race gas all the time. The suspension is for sure my next area of attack. I need to get somethign better than the shit setup I have now. I was going to lower the psi a bit to try and help some but I was just really paraniod the whole time I was going to snap an axle. I think if I lowered the presure a bit and heated them up better I would have seen low 12's but that's all speculation. Next time im going out with a tow vehicle and car dolly so its balls to the wall. Keep us updated on your quest for 12's. I am hoping for high elevens next year with the meth injection and about 31psi of boost.

thanks like I said above next time I am going out with tow vehicle and car dolly so I am going to start at about 13psi and work my way down until I see the best results between spining ht etires and having too low of tire presure.

great times for a fwd :thumb: only if i had some slicks at the time  u should think about upgrading your axles just to be safe.

Just remember who found you those slicks! Naw j/p... GREAT times man... props for sticking with FWD :D

Dont worry its on my list of things to do but I can't afford 1.5k axles at the moment so the stockers are going to have to do.

Ya ya ya haha, Thanks mahesh I don't knwo how much longer I will be staying wiht fwd i'm still contemplating whether I want to do the awd swap or not.

It's about damn time Zach :D

Can't wait to see how it goes with more tweaks.

Haha I think I can say the same for you its about damn time we see you posting on the bay area dsmers post ROFL :p .

Thanks Chris I have been dealing with so many damn ghosts with this car for so long it was seriously weird feeling actually turnign a decent time. Don't worry next season is going to have some big changes in store. More boost+meth injection= happy zach. By the way you ever get your car to the track with the new setup or are you more doing the road racing thing now??

Edit: ha! just looked under your name and saw the 12 second slip. Man I need traction your trap is so low compared to your e.t.

Congrats on the times! I'm assuming you were running this on pump gas? How many pounds of boost were you able to push out of this crappy 91 octane we have here?

Thanks bro, yes it was on pump gas I am currently running 23 pounds of boost and I probably could be running more but I ran out of fuel with my 190lph fuel pump. I think if I had my 255 installed then i could have squeezed a couple more pounds of boost out of the setup safely. With meth injection I plan on running 30+psi.

turn the boost up, run race gas and meth injection and watch those 11's baby..wooohooo

I still refuse to run race gas haha, but with meth injection and more boost 11's should be no problem. I know I could have pulled a low 12 if I stayed and had a few more runs but I'll just wait to finish my tweaks for next years season.

Yeah, I need to do some better driving really. I put the DSMlink in the car over a month ago and haven't touched it since - haven't even made any changes yet. I'm hoping once we get all unpacked in our new house I'll be able to start playing with the car more. The garage is a mess and most of my tools are still packed.

I'm in no hurry though - come spring everything should be running nicely. I'm actually helping start up a NASA Pro Racing chapter out here in Denver so I'll be doing more road course events than drag racing for sure next year. Can't wait to get the kinks worked out.

Work on your shifts and get some traction and you should be able to work that time down a bit I'm sure.
