so what is everyone using as far as axles go?? I have a new oem driver side axle and I have a ripped cv boot on my passanger so it needs to be replaced. I am afraid of breaking my u joint/hub assemblies with slicks. Anyone running either raxles/driveshaft shop stage 5 axles?

I think we get pretty much dicked in this department. I looked at both raxles and driveshaft shop and at both places they use the stock ujoints/ and the whole assebly where the splines connect into either the trannny or hub in their stage 3 axles. To get a pretty much bullet proof axle set up you would have to go with their stage 5 kit and that costs 1500. Any other suggestions?

I have stage 5 Driveshaft Shop axles but unfortunately I haven't had the chance to really stress test them. Between more tuning on the car, running a business, kids and a wife that works shift work I hope to get to the track sometime this year. I have been told that the stock stuff is made of chromemoly and pretty stout.

12.42@ 113.9 with an almost full weight car(spare tire removed). G-force tires, stock motor, evo 3 turbo@21 psi,580 cc inj,190lph walbro, 2.5 inch exhaust pressbent, fmic and a maft for tuning. Oh and wendy, I'm taking your advice and not giving up on the fwd. I still am working on my awd but I havent been to the track in months and have a few extra little things done to the fwd and am going to try for 11's before the track closes for the winter. 16g turbos= :thumb: I know I am proud of my car, especially going that fast in a fwd with not a whole lot done to it. I think the reason there arent many fast fwd dsm's is because people give up on the traction issues and take the easy way out(awd).

Damn man I'm glad to hear you are sticking with it. Keep the FWDs alive!! :thumb: , also very impressive times you got there. ;) Gota love those 16g turbo's.

Wendy

Thanks Wendy. I am competitive so you are a big part of why I am going as fast as I am now and the same reason I plan on going faster.

what size bfg'? I got a set of the 225/45/17's drag radials because the 225/50/15 is smaller OD and i think would negate traction beecause of lower gearing

I am putting in my new tranny this week with an LSD

I am hoping for low high 1.9's 60fts...with my 350whp that should put me in the low 12's

ya but you want more of a sidewall to cushion the launch

also the outter diameter is 23.9" this is what i use at 15psi and i just cut a 1.9 60ft but i broke a axle down the way

Just pray you will have enough power it doesn't fall on its face with slicks that size, and you have beefy driveshaft and axles... :thumb:

Wendy

I am hoping for 500whp with my gt35r but we'll see what it makes. I have been waiting a few weeks for someone to make me a dowmpipe for it for now so I am not sure when it will get going again. I have a stock tranny, stock axles and no lsd yet. I have a few sets of axles so I am not all that worried about breaking them. I plan on doing more drivetrain stuff when I break the current tranny.

get a shep or TRE tranny and throw a quaife into it....then you can be somewhat confident about the tranny

Thats what I planned on doing, but not until I break the one I have now.

Thats the same size I got. 225/45/17

Guys...im looking to get a drag radial for the track only sorta tire....i was looking at bfgoodrich drag radial....215/60/14 drag radial....wut do u guys think about this tire? Is it too small? Will it hurt me in the long run..? Any experiences with this tire?

hey guys. i was about to give up on my fwd drive too until this past weekend. a buddy of mine let me borrow a set of slicks to go to the import showdown in reynold ga. my final run the car went 12.83 @109 mph. my best time before this was 14.2 @104 mph on bald crappy street tires. the car is full weight, with an evo III 16g, 3 inch exhaust, ams fmic, 1g bov, walbro 255 fuel pump, 580 injectors, safc, and a manual boost controller set at 23 lbs. i know that the car had more in it, but i have a boost leak and my tranny gave out after that last run. oh well, i'm finally in the 12's! i no longer have the awd itch and plan on going much faster in the fwd in the future. good luck guys

Well thought I would give you all an update on my fwd times. So I was finally able to get to the track tuned with some slicks and I guess i am satisfied with the times at the moment I was hoping for better but I ran into some problems. Well it was my first time out with slicks so I was getting used to launching the car the first few runs and I was just getting hosed left and right. I ran a 14.2, 14.7, 14.3 and another 14.3. I could get down a decent launch but I would just roast the slicks through second gear it was driving me crazy, I mean I ran these times on street tires at 8psi. So I dropped the tire preasure from 23 to 19psi and I imediately jumped from a 14.2 to a 13.2 so obviously I was doing somethign right but I was still spining through second and cutting only 2.2 60fts. So I go back drop the tire preasure to 14-15psi doing a nice big burnout, and finally turned a decent time. The run felt great really good launch nice shifts, and when I come back from the run I find that I got a [email protected]. I still spun them through second but the trap speed is there now I just need to find a way to get more traction.

Edit: this was done on pump gas and full weight including jack and tools.

Good times, were you getting enough heat into them before each pass?

I was trying to, but I would just pull through my ebrake. I need to adjust it a bit but I didn't feel like ripping apart my car at the track. I could get a decent burnut though.

I got a 90 gst FWD, I bought the lowering springs and adjustable struts/shocks. I have a big 16g with a 2g exhaust manifold and a ported 1g o2 housing, 2.5" downpipe opening to a 3" flexpipe and full 3" exhaust, 550cc injectors, S-afc I, 2g mas with cold air pipe, 2" turbo outlet pipe connecting to a 2 1/2" lower intercooler pipe connecting to a supra tt smic connecting to a 2 1/2" upper intercoolerpipe connected to a 2g tb elbow gasket matched to my 1g tb. I did a compression test and got 143/147/145/143. Boost leakdown went good too. I got some 17" konigs with 225/45 khumo ecstas. My goal is to run mid 12's. I want your opinions on what kind of times I'm gonna put down??? I plan to run 16psi during the week but I'm gonna run 20psi at the track. I know its kinda up there but I found a gas station that sells 95 octane like 2 miles from my house.I want your opinions and tips.

I had a maft and 3" gm maf but I was having a hard time tuning it right so I went with something simpler. I heard 2g mas' hold up to 400hp and I'm trying to just hit 300-325hp

Reading all of these posts really gives me and my fwd tsi some hope :thumb: Dsmtuners.com is the shizzle!!!!!!

20psi is nothing just make sure you are tuned for it. However, I think you will be hard pressed to run mid 12's on 17's and only 300 to the wheels in a fwd.

With that amount of boost. Those wheels, and tires I'm saying high to MAYBE mid 12s. Also, like someone else said proper tuning is VERY important. A wideband of some sort would be a good investment as well since you will be trying to get the most out of such a simple setup. Good driving skills are going to be the key. In other words pulling off some awesome 60s. Good luck... :thumb:

Man I love my FWD... :D

I should have my fwd up and running this weekend....

6 bolt swap
crowler rods
ross pistons
Arp everything
1g head slight porting
sbr lsd incert
act 2600
light weight flywheel

I'm going to be running my big 16g for the first 1000 miles or so...then I'll be throwing on this littlle thing called a rs60T, fmic, and injectors ( im the running ecu+ )

it should be quick if i also can get traction. I remeber downshifting at 65 mph to 3rd and breaking them loose with the big 16g on my last dsm. I can't wait to expereince my rs60t.

If I ever rebuild, im gonna go stroker even though its fwd, I think the torque may help. And I think slicks is the only way to do it.

I have a stroked engine and it does help with torque, but it also makes pealing out that much easier. when you're not runnin those slicks, keeping traction may be tricky. i would definately recommend it though.

sidenote - i love my car, but if i had an extra 3 or 4k when i got my car, i would have gotten an awd in a heart beat. i wish every time i go to the track i had awd.
