hey guys, i have a 97 gsx that i cant get over 3000RPM with power
because the boost reads full.(car also tops out at roughly 90 MPH) I
hear a extremely loud/weird hissing sound coming from the passenger
side which is why i think its the blow off valve thats leaking. After
a couple of weeks of collecting money to fix the problem Ive started
to think that it might be the wastegate thats bad. I was wondering if
any of you guys could give me a clue of what it might be. The car is
completely stock and i just bought it about it a month and a half
ago. Ive been trying to figure out the problem by searching through the
forums, Ive finally collected enough money to actually put to wards
the car to fix it and i really want to get it fixed so that i could feel
the joy of driving a real turbo AWD car, and also so my friend with
an SI can shut up already. Any help or information Will be greatly
appreciate, thanks

Stop thinking, build yourself a boost leak tester and find out where its coming from. It definately sounds like a boost leak. Your on the right track. Leak test your car, Fix the problem, Kill your friends SI.

Yeah, bro. You have a boost leak. Probably not the blow off valve, if it is stock. You should concider a performance valve, like a GReddy type-s. If the car has had any maintainance someone may have removed some of the upper or lower intercooler piping and not connected them properly after the service. A leak tester is a good idea, but you should be able to visably detect the problem. I sugest checking the connection to the intercooler in front of the passenger front tire. The plastic stock hose goes to the intercooler from under the stock airbox. You should check there. Any loose hose should come off by hand, or is already off. Good luck.

I think you meant it probably IS the BOV, which is more than likely correct. My stock 2g BOV started leaking at around 11 psi. I went out and spent $30 on a 1g BOV and adaptor and it raised my 'stock' boost level to 15psi and it ran much smoother.

This may not be your only leak however, as posted above make a boost leak tester and find out what your intake system is doing.

Also, if by 'full boost' you mean the needle on your stock 'boost gauge' is at full, disregard anything that gauge tells you. It is mearly taking an estimate on airflow based on what the ECU sees and displaying that. Your next investment should be a real boost gauge, costs around $30.

PROBLEM FIXED, it was the smic piping that came loose and was drasticly taking away all my power, now it feels just like stock, and wow does my car pull. THis is the first time ive ever had a chance to drive my car 100
