So i just pulled my bumper off...not too bad....and i've come to a complete halt. I have an adfx fmic and i don't even know where to begin putting this thing on. I thought it wouldn't be so bad for an install....just a bolt for top and bottom of the intercooler......but i can't find where to mount it. There's also the U-shaped little piping that's in the way. Please for those who have installed a fmic, help! I've looked at other posts to try and help me out, but no luck. here's what i'm dealing with:

What i did was do a lot of cutting on the bumper. Also i had on big bracket welded on the bottom. and took off one bolt on the cross member and put it through there. It doesnt move at all but make sure you messure to make sure its centered i forgot to do that. Also that U shaped line in the back is the power steering cooler. I took that out and got a small powersteering cooler for like 15 bucks. heres a link. and questions let me know and ill try to help.

there is 4 bolts hold the fiberglass bumper guard thing on the bottom of the car ( 2bolts on each side). Remove those bolts and take off the bumper guard. The take off the radiator shroud thing. This will expose a vertical bar in front of the radiator where you can mount the top bracket. :dsm:

FYI the next time you take off your bumper i found it easier just to remove the 2 on the sides, the the one on top and bottom then the 4 holding the bumper gaurd. The ones under the light are a B!TCH to get too :notgood: so i dont even bother

so that big black guard in the front comes off, and also the flimsy plastic piece on the bottom that held the bottom of my bumper on?

thanks a lot guys....i'll post the pics of the finished product when i'm done :thumb:

hey i ran into another problem....i marked this picture with colored circles. Now, is the blue circle where i mount the top of the IC and the yellow where i mount the bottom of the ic? Those seem like they are the right spot, but just to make sure. My problem is the green circle: my little pipe from the IC runs directly into that and i'm not sure i can cut that out. i can't go above that spot because that's where the light sits and i can't go below it because well look at it. Can i just cut that whole section out? Also for the red spot on the right...can i just bend that power steering cooler behind the fmic and in front of the radiator?

Yes thats where you mount it, and i'm pretty sure with that style of FMIC that green circled portion has to be cut out.

And yes you can just bend the PS cooler behind the metal support in front of the rad.

I have the slow boy FMIC and it runs in about the same place.. i had to cut a huge chunck out.. right where your green circle is... to get it to fit. haven't had any problem.

Yep that would be considered "short route" piping. You will need to cut that green area. If you didnt want to cut it you should have gone the longer route piping like the Greddy and Apexi FMICs.

There's other short route kits out there that don't require any cutting.

Yes they would be condsidered short route. But the kits that require you to cut out metal like the SBR kit is a true short route or the shortest shortest route :D

Do you have the full piping for the intercooler? From turbo to Throttle body? If so, i would cut out that green circle area and make it work. Shorter intercooler piping is always better. If you dont have all the piping, You could get the intercooler inlet/outlets cut and rewelded so you could use your greddy UIC piping and just have to figure out the lower piping portion..........

no i don't have pipes for it yet.....i'm just going to get them custom made. the mounting is going super well.....got the green area cut, fmic is mounted (had to get the pipe from the intercooler extended to fit through into the engine bay a little more by welding a a 2-inch piece of pipe to it, and also a longer bracket extension). going good though!! this is something i don't ever want to do again cuz it sucks. hopefully i will be running 12s soon :thumb:

just about finished, but one last question.....the big flimsy black plastic piece shown below is the piece that holds my lower bumper together. it also covered my radiator. Do i need to put that back in? Cuz i don't think i can get it back in with my fmic in place. did anyone else leave this piece out? this is pretty much what it looks like...

Ditch the plastic but keep the metal plate that runs along the bottom of the bumper as it helps it keep it's shape.

Also it looks like your front bumper needs a touch more trimming so it doesn't bulge out.

Yea get rid of all that plastic, its useless now that you have the fmic.

I would recommend cutting out the black plastic part on the top inner part of the bumper cover. I did on mine and noticed a drastic decrease in coolant temps as well as better "butt testing" performance :thumb:

Hey man thats coming out really nice! Good job on the first time install! :thumb:

Well here's the finished product.....i think it looks bad ass as hell. only one problem that i have to deal with: the gap between my hood and bumper is a little large. It actually looks ok, maybe even better. It's something small but when something even changes a little bit on my car, i can sense it quickly, even a little tiny scratch. but everything fit perfectly and there was no restriction on the bumper from the fmic. don't know how the gap opened up, but i gotta deal with it. nothing bad though
