Well, GridLife Watkins Glen was a hectic event. Didn’t get the times we needed due to issues with the car. So here’s the recap:
Unloaded and got teched. The car never got balanced and aligned prior to the event, so we rolled across the comp scales just to get an idea of where the car was balance wise. Went out first session, and straight away, there was an issue where I could only go 20-25% throttle. Anything over that, it was almost like a rolling anti lag or something. It would just go flat. It would pull just fine to redline, make 15psi, just couldn’t go 100% throttle. Couldn’t even go 30% throttle. At the end of the first session, the power steering pressure switch blew out and sprayed power steering fluid all over. There was no way to get it fixed, so I just cut the belt.
Went out second session with manual steering, which was brutal. Very difficult to get around the slower corners. At the end of that session, we lost an oil line that returned oil from the accusump to the engine. So the hunt was on for a -10 hose and some fittings. Which I was able to find and make a line to replace the ruptured tube. It was at this point the rains came, and never stopped. Along with the oil line rupturing, the alternator harness burned up and killed the alternator as well. So we had some issues. My buddy Chris showed up with an alternator and we were able to get the alternator in and rewired. We missed the rest of Friday and the majority of Saturday getting the car fixed. Went out for last Qualifying on Saturday, in the wet with no power steering. Without power steering, if the car had started to get away from me, I wouldn’t have been able to catch it. Not sure where we came home, but it had to be dead last. It was a very difficult weekend, but we never gave up. Kept pushing to get the car back out and we turned a few laps at the end there.
We’ll get it fixed up for NJMP in July. Here’s some pics from the weekend.

That is exactly how DSM racing goes. Its hard to do this without a team of black shirts and a trailer full of spares. Good job finishing!

Yeah man. I’m confident that we’ll get everything squared up for NJMP in July. Tough doing this racing thing alone as it is. Luckily I did have some help. Otherwise we may not have made it. Cause I was exhausted by Friday night.

I truly hope to be able to be next to you in a pits one day with our cars. It keeps me motivated when I am feeling so overwhelmed. Keep it up dude and good luck at the next event!

Curious if you tune the ride height for the splitter? I would expect you want it just at the point it rubs under heavy breaking, or high speed cornering.
We have the splitter pucks on there to keep the splitter from sealing completely to the track and stalling. This was also the first time out with the new suspension, so still in the process of getting it all setup right. The got a little lower so it moved the roll centers down a little bit. Going to try and get them raised back up which most likely will mean raising the car a little bit at static height. I also have a front sway bar I can throw in. I want to get Bobbys adapters for the rear bar so I can use an Evo bar instead of the insanity that is the DSM bar LOL

What bars are you currently running? Are you finding that you are lifting the inside wheel or something else that makes you want to increase the rear roll bar stiffness?
I’m running the RMDSM rear bar at the moment. And no. Not picking up the inside rear wheel. I make sure to run enough droop travel to keep that from happening. Just want more options in tune ability.

Thanks for the feedback. I was curious if you were looking for Evo bars with less, or more, stiffness than what is available for the DSM (which I believe is just OEM or RM?).

I'm on OEM suspension at the moment with RM sway bars front and rear, and the car is quite tail-happy; I've contemplated going back to an OEM bar for the time being. I have DG Koni coilovers I've yet to put on the car though so have been holding off until then as that will undoubtedly change things.

Gotcha. Yeah I’m on the RM rear bar and stock front bar. I’m anticipating going to the front RM bar when the Evo bar goes in. I also have every adjustable arm available for the car, and Fortune 510’s on the car. The car does get a little loose on corner entry, but I want a bit more rotation out of it.

Radium surge tank has arrived, as well as Bobbys sway bar kit, a new front bumper and the EPS pump. Scheduled a dyno session on June 24th to get the car squared away with a tune. A couple more bits are inbound as well. Really need to nail down the EPS first though so the car is at least drivable.

With that being said, the EPS pump is mounted and wired for the most part. Just waiting on hose and fittings to make up the line. Also, got Bobbys sway bar setup in the car over the weekend. Also, picked up some new wheels. I haven’t even shared this to my Instagram yet, so consider this a Tuners exclusive. The wheels are 18x9.5 +25 Konig Heliograms

all looks killer dude, awesome work as always!

Not too much progress over the long weekend. Had a lot of family obligations to attend to, so hopefully getting back to the car today after work. Have to mount the circuit breaker for the EPS, and go full bore into mounting the surge tank and wrapping up the fuel system upgrades. Very excited to have that done. Got the tires mounted on the wheels, and the wheels on the car and the car on the ground. It’ll take some getting used to over the RPF1’s, but they’re growing on me. I was going to reveal the new wheels on IG, but I think I’ll do it on here first, so the forum and community get a first look. Something I thought was trying to get more folks back on to the forums instead of Facebook nonsense. So for now, here’s a pic of a tire mounted on a wheel LOL

Thanks for sharing and directing people back to the forums!

The wheels look good! Can't wait to see them on the car. 🤘🤘

Alright. Got some things done over the weekend. Volvo EPS setup is in and working. I absolutely love it. I know a lot of people go prius EPS, but I just wanted something super easy to install and have working. Yes it still uses fluid. But it works great. Especially helpful if we have to push the car around the paddock without starting the engine. Also made good progress on the surge tank. Almost completely plumbed. Got some line and fittings from Extremepsi yesterday, so I’ll try and wrap that all up today/this weekend. My wife and kids are going to Florida next Wednesday and I’m meeting them down there on Friday, so that gives me a solid two days after work to do whatever I need to do before the dyno on the 24th. Making progress.

I’ll do a full write up on it. It’s almost too easy.
I've got the same on mine. I have some info in my build thread. It is really easy and comes in handy not having to have the car running (i.e. getting pushed through paddock, oops). Also, are you using the controller for it? There is a guy who makes a controller for it to simulate the ecu it normally has. If you just give them power, they run in a failsafe mode and you only get 50-75% of full assist or something like that. The controller also has a potentiometer knob so you can adjust the motor speed. It has been really handy for me on the 315s so I can just turn it up a bit if it starts getting behind.

So far just the 50-75% has been ok. Haven’t driven it yet so if I need to run the controller, I will. But just turning the wheel in the garage has been awesome.

Surge tank is almost fully plumbed. Just need to do the tank side stuff and electrical and the surge tank will be done. Then it’s off to the dyno on the 24th. Not looking to make a ton more power, just want to make as much reliable power as possible. Dial back the torque a bit to keep the trans happy, and just keep the power reliable.
