I was wondering how you were hitting it so hard already, and I'm still learning. I have no idea how to break in a motor or tune it yet, LOL. I just want to see her go fast again, love the old videos. ( I show them to my work buddies when I want to show what a dsm can do.) The Mexico bike pull is classic IMO. We will be patient, all good things to those who wait.
Weve broke in a lot of cars on the dyno... little bit of cruise... a couple 15psi pulls to get her dialed in... drain the oil and give it the beans.

I have met engine builders that say "baby it if you want it to last a long time" and others that have thrown together a BBC, fresh off the stand, put it in a OG Camaro and sent their son out to "test" it. I rode along. He hit the valve float in every gear. We came back and dad asked "how did it run?" and he said "Great". It was his contention that if something is going to go wrong, it is going to do it anyway so might as well find out now. I just like to get the rings seated (and it doesn't take long if I have honed with my 320 grit ball hone, they seat fast) and then go see what she is made of.....to a point. I had no idea I had ripped her past 8k. It went so fast, so fast (in first gear) that I had to shift ASAFP. The log showed 8800. Well, I guess it will hold up to 8 for now until I push it further and she feels like wanting to go.
@DreamChaser7 , when this is tuned to its finest, it should be able to "play" with liter bikes, I think!

Not to get off topic but to add the input, for our fancy modern hydraulic roller overhead cam engines I’ve always went with determine what weight of oil is being used, buy up the cheapest conventional oil in that weight I happen to stumble upon and the cheapest filter, start it with the cheapest stuff, drain it after a heat cycle or 2, refill it with more of the cheap stuff, make sure bugs are worked out and everything is good maybe do a few part throttle low boost pulls, dump in whatever oil I’m going to use regularly and whatever filter and throw it on the dyno (or street tune) and beat the living bajesuses out of it. However I don’t see what using break in oil in place of whatever Rural King has the cheapest would hurt, I just went with this route as it’s what I call the “Buschur method”, as it’s the response he would give when people would ask him about putting fresh 6-7 mile engines on the dyno.

The only advantage with break in oil is the zzdp for our thrust surface that I can see. Personally I think it would help prevent crank walk with a heavy plate but I just unhook the clutch switch so no need to press a 3200# clutch without oil on the thrust surface. Other than that, I agree. I started out with Harvest King 10W30 and am switching to Harvest King 10W40 possibly this weekend. I'll do another 300 miles (a week of driving to work) and change it out to 10W40 or 20W50. I have to see how the weather is. The NEXT oil change after that is whatever I want to run from then on. :thumb:

Washed her today with a scrub brush since she had sat under a tree for the last 5+ years. The hood needs stripped, and repainted. The sit wasn't kind to it. Its dull. Im not sure why the headlight covers withstood the test of time but they did. I "might" be able to get my BF to reshoot the hood. He quit doing paint but if it's just a hood, he already told me he would clear coat my CF VIS hood. I'll catch him in a good mood!
I took the car down the road and back for a blow dry and I just couldn't resist a 3rd gear pull so I mashed the gas pedal and waited...it was laggy but when boost came in, the car started "skating" significantly. It is a bit spooky and fun at the same time. I really need to get cruise tune dialed in a bit better and then I can take her to work.
What a blast even though it only lasted about 5 seconds. :D:thumb:
When the cruise tune is better, videos will follow!

It was a Beautiful day today, 83* here in the Midwest so I could not help bringing all 3 Patriotic DSMs to life for a short clip.
I hope it inspires EVERYONE!
It's alot of work to keep up 3, but it has its rewarding moments. It was just a personal goal of mine to have Red, White and Blue DSMs. :thumb:

Nowadays we’re s’pose to say “not that there’s anything wrong with that”, wouldn’t want to offend anyone who is easily prone to that. It’s okay Marty, we’ll all still love you!
Those people probably voted for Biden and against the RPM act!

If offended my address is in the book... LOL...

We shouldnt need to censor ourselves so much.

Hail Marty! MARTY FOR PRES!

I think my best friend would be very offended but IDC. ROFL
I bet I could do a better job of running shit than what's going on so write me in!!!!
You're all just jelouse, I can tell....just settle down. I've worked my ass off, literally, to get this accomplishment! :banghead: :p;):thumb:ROFLROFLROFL

I’m with you Marty, live and let live. Ain’t got time for that. I don’t care what anyone chooses to do, just don’t force it on me. And we can tell the way you’re running around those cars! ROFLROFL

Just dreams.
Signing off.
Lost the motor Tuesday......

I lost the bottom end but she did get me home (5 miles). Noisy AF. Haven't done anything to determine a failure. Tune was good. Car was performing great. Some mechanical failure but I won't know until the motor is out and tore down although I suspect rod bearing(s). She was good enough to get me home, so good girl. I figure the bottom end is toast.
PLANS:
Pros -
I have almost every part to build another race short block. I have crank, rods, oil pump, water pump, timing components most gaskets and ARP main and head studs all in stock. I have a motor on the stand that is done but it isn't a forged motor.
Cons -
The time to remove everything. Get the replacement block decked and new 22mm bushings in my Manley I beams, which I have, they need to go to a shop but I have to tear down the donor all the way first. I also need a set of pistons with 22mm pins (7 bolt, 10:1 for E85).
So I guess that isn't much it's just the time after work to get it done and not waste ANOTHER YEAR.
Still thinking it all over.
I'll have a few pictures of the donor motor posted up this afternoon probably.
Here is ONE of just a motor I rescued from Arkansas a few years ago. I have no idea what I will find when I tear it down but I'll tag n bag all of it and let you all know what I have.
NOW, thank you all of my brothers. I have been depressed but if I can get a couple helpers to help me get the powertrain out and back in, it won't be so hard on my body. I appreciate everyone's concern and just want to say Thank You to you all, even those who just read the thread without comment. Your support has always kept me going! :thumb:
More photos later.

Man Marty that sucks to hear but I can definitely relate. I’ve been down for 3 years now looking at a pile of parts as for me it’s time along with lack of motivation and being in over my head. I look at it like ok I put this thing back together then one little screw up can wipe out 3 years worth of time. That’s not to demotivate you but to say when you put it like that there’s some of us that can relate.

Ok nay sayers. You lifted me up. Now for the rest of you SLACKERS.....I PRESENT THE NEXT 6 BOLT.
She has NO ring groove and has nice bores and even a good crank (needs a polish is all)!
Y'all need to GET BUSY! I did this after mowing my 3 acre lawn today.
It took a little less than 2 hours to tear down.
Is that incentive or what???
Thank you all for your support!
Marty :)
