1995 Eclipse Gst. Doing a full rebuild on the car, just got done with the engine for the moment, now I'll be replacing most of the suspension components. I'm going with coilovers but not sure of the brand. I have heard good things about Maxspeeding rods but I can see there are 3 different options for Gst models. What are your opinions on this brand and which coilover model you have ?

Im not sure what youve heard about maxspeedingrods, the only thing I have heard is they are the absolute cheapest coilover you can buy. The most in depth review on them, is the user says they slammed his car to the gound just fine.

I dont think they are a good option, unless you just want to say you have coilovers and slam yoir car to the ground

Maxpeedingrods is the absolute cheapest of China knockoff stuff you can find. This is fine for some things if you know the risks, but when it comes to suspension cheap Chinese suspension is going to perform like cheap Chinese suspension. If you can’t swing real coil overs you’d be better off grabbing some good H&R or Eibach springs and a good set of struts before wasting money on that junk.

What brand you recommend ? Not looking to go that low and just have a smooth ride.

Check out Flatout Suspension. They are/were a sponsoring vendor here.

Just took a look at that website

What brand would you recommend? Looking for something mid low but also a smooth ride. I had Tein coilovers on my Evo. Great handle on corners but way to stiff. I want to be able to daily drive the Eclipse with more comfort.

I’ve never owned a set myself to say what will perform up to what you’re looking for as I’ve always used H&R springs and they’ve done what I needed them to do, but for what it’s worth I’ve got some hands on with the higher end Megan ones and they are nice (I’ve heard not so good things about the lower end ones). For what you’re looking to do good springs might be all you need. I can tell you you’re looking up around $1k for coil overs for these cars that are worth buying.

Its really all up to debate on coilovers

Bottom line is everyone drives on a different road, everyone has a different taste for how they want a performance ride to feel

If you spend $500 on a coilover setup you should expect a lower end quality, and zero dollars resale value for them used

If you spend $1100 on a name brand setup and dont like them, you can re sell them for a few hundred less so your can try another brand

So risk vs reward on the $500 coilover, they ride like crap and maybe you get $200 for them barely used

So if you think about potential loss you should also consider resale value if you want to get something different

Flatout suspension is absolutely a good choice and what I would recommend. At $1,500, they're a bargain for what you get and how they perform. I bought them for my 1g AWD a couple years ago and am very happy with them.

If the $1,500 price tag is too much, then just go with whatever Chinese knockoff you want. In the sub-thousand dollar market, all those cheap coilovers probably come from the same factory overseas anyway.

Maxspeeding is probably the current budget of budgets. From my observations, they’re like your generic Chinese quality coilovers from eBay/Amazon/Alibaba/etc. For the amount you’re gonna spend, they’ll probably blow out within the year of having them or earlier. I would probably save up a bit more to get Tein/Rev9/Newer Megan racings for budget. If you have more to spend maybe BCs because they’re pretty popular. Not the best but they will get the job done.
