As some of us are getting on in years (get off my lawn!) and the similar thread results are all a decade old, it seems like a good time to run another poll 👍

I'll start off by saying I bought my first DSM before the Galant, but I think I sold it... holy crap, ~8 years ago now

This is all a bit fuzzy LOL

First one I got when I was maybe 17ish, blew the center differential and sold the car. Then got my current '92 around '99. Wild to really think about.
Ditto, pretty much exactly the same and same years. Didn’t blow my fist one up though.

Bought my 2G in 2008, and sold it just this year(Feb 2023). Current 1G I bought this year. So like, few months max. Lol.

Bought my very first ever DSM in like, 2003-2004ish. 1993 Eagle Talon DS(1.8L of fury!) that we engine swapped to a 4G63 N/A to gain all of like, 20-30 hp Lol. Loved that reliable thing though.

My current dsm is my 2gb Talon Tsi 1997 bought in spring of 2011. I bought my first one, 1990 Talon tsi AWD in Fall of 1992. There have been many in between all of them turbo and most AWD. Never had a galant or CSM. Always wanted both.

I was just going to start one of these threads earlier today because someone had asked me how I got my car and was wondering about other peoples stories so...

Storytime!

Spring 2005... Found a '98 Barcelona Red/tan leather GST with 20k miles on it that was immaculate out of Tennessee. Driving home around midnight, coming from seeing my friend at the time(my wife now). Decided to get off the highway and cruise a bit to see if there were any cars out, but since there werent, stopped at Wendy's. 2 jr bacons, large fry and a raspberry ice tea. Turned onto the main street for a straight shot home.. Came through the forest preserve, coming down hill, threw it into neutral as i watched a 97 style Ford Taurus turn out of the gas station ahead and get into the turn lane on the other side of the intersection. My light turned green, Taurus didnt move the whole time, so I threw it back into gear and stepped on the gas. Coming up to the intersection and the Taurus starts to move and turns right in front of me. I hit the brakes and everything went into slow motion.. i could clearly see the girl driving, the guy in the passenger seat and a blond woman in the back seat. All laughing it up and none of them were looking at me. Watched the raspberry tea levitate out of the holder and explode all over the windshield and all I could think was "man, thats going to be a bi*** to clean up"

.....darkness....

Woke up to some lady asking me if I was alright... because "you just ran a red light".... I immediately snapped out the daze and told her "f*** you lady that light was green!" I took a good look at her, it was the shady meth lookin blonde hag from the back seat, who was now trying to pretend that she was a "witness"... Didnt think the damage was as bad as it was until i got to the body shop and saw how bad the damage was.... thanks for not throwing me an air bag bi***, not surprising because that car hated everyone.. mostly women, but hated me too :D.

Months went by. Went to court, their story kept changing and court found it impossible that I could drive through a pitch black forest preserve with no headlight on like they claimed. Cops were able to verify my story about the "witness" riding in the car because I wouldve had to have been psychic to know that she was wearing a red coat and red hat that they found in the backseat. Looking for another Eclipse. Barely broke even with the amount of money I still owed on it. My friend had a black Eclipse GST that I had basically chose all the parts for because I knew more about Eclipses than he did. He mentioned that he was thinking about moving on to a bmw 3 series(ultimately got a 350Z). He jokingly said that I should buy his car, after I asked him how much, we made a deal within the week.

Blew up my first GSX like everyone does by throwing parts on a car before I knew what I was doing and pushing it when it was in terrible condition. Accident in the GST... Going for longevity with this one so I keep it pretty modest.

Off the lot in Aug of 91 after deciding I hated the 92 headlights and didn't want too pay the difference for a 3000GT VR4 so I got a 91 GSX.

that is awesome, popops for life!

@luv2rallye I'm impressed that it's your only car after 24 years :D

owned my 97 eclipse gst since new.people thought i was crazy buying it.until i blew there doors off...

Since just 2012 for me. I had NO IDEA what it was but I inherited it after the inducer nut came off the turbo. It started out as a car my son said we "needed". Hmmmm
Thousands and thousands of dollars and just over ten years for me. Now I am addicted as my "herd" shows. I am pretty much known as the 90 guy.
1 - 1990 Laser RS
3 - 1990 TSI's
3 - 1990 GSX's
1 - 1991 Laser RS
1 - 1992 TSI
A couple are only parts cars but Its a lot of work. Somehow it gives me satisfaction trying to keep up with the ones that are still saleable until I can sell off all but 1 Red, 1 White and 1 Blue one. :thumb:
I really like just understanding them and getting them into street able shape. Know one else within 50-100 miles to me knows shit about them and I wouldn't really trust any shop, so for me, the UNDERSTANDING of them is key (and is helpful in making them into a monster if I want but I love the mostly stock one).

I have had my Galant for 11 years now.

You win Steve. It's basically like your child at this point. :)

I bought my 1g about 15 years ago and I have had my 2g for 7 years.

I knew Eclipse in 1989 because of a Japanese TV series and some of my family worked at MHI and Mitsubishi motors and they mentioned about it. But was totally not common and never seen one on the streets in Japan. When I started to be in Canada/North America in the early 2000, I saw many DSMs running on the streets. After I settled in Mexico in 2005 I started thinking to buy some Japanese compact that has a legendary engine. But Mexican government allowed me to import only the cars that are made in North America which have a vin number beginning with 1-5 number. Thank DSM! Built in the States and equipped with a 4g63!

Bought mine August 9th, 2000. Kinda crazy how far it’s come. And we’re not even close to done yet!
