Hey guys im sorry im still new to this platform and dont know which fluid to use. I want to do a full flush on power steering and tranny . Which fluid should i use for the power steering and tranny. I want this car to last as long as i can thankies . Im also saving up to restore it even though its hard when im in college and have two jobs. I rarely have time for myself . Thank you so much guys

Also spec : 1998 eclipse gs 2g/nt 420a

This is usually in the 00 General section of the FSM as well as in the owners manual.

The various service manuals are in the resources section of the site.

There are many threads on what fluid to use in a 420A trans in the 420A drivetrain forum cause the Texaco spec might be difficult to find or cross.

Thank you so much mr steve!

In your signature it looks like you have an automatic so you don't have to worry about crossing the texaco fluid. The automatics you want to use ATF+4

I can also use atf 4 for ps fluid as well right?
I wouldn't recommend it. Using the wrong fluid can swell or deteriorate seals and other rubber parts. 8 bucks for power steering fluid is a lot cheaper than a new rack or pump.

The fluid recommend for the power steering is a transmission fluid but it is not the same thing as ATF+4. Dexron II is for older GM cars. You probably will only find Dexron III but all GM Dexron fluids supersede each other so you can use a higher number Dexron and it is still compatible. Alot of times the bottle at the parts store will say DEX/MERC on it. That is the fluid you want

Most variations of the Dexron/Mercon fluid will work for the power steering. It's been over 3 years since I installed the current pump with a generic brand of that fluid and it's been fine. I'll tell you what isn't fine though is Lucas power steering fluid. I used some of that a few years back and it ruined the power steering pump within 2 days. I could probably still be using the OEM pump if I would've just used Dexron/Mercon
