Hey guys! My name is Tina, I found myself in the possession of a 1990 Plymouth Laser RS Turbo (with only 64K miles) and am so excited about this recent find! I am not familiar with DSMs so I will be learning as I go. I’m looking forward to familiarizing myself with this gem and making it my very own!

All this car really needs is some moderate maintenance work and a cleanup before it’ll be road-worthy, then I can start thinking about upgrades (if any.)

Just wanted to stop by here and introduce myself! Any tips or advice is appreciated!

That one is an overall description of the 1G's with some 1990 specific information. I hope the books you bought were 1990 versions. Being the first year there were many things that changed in 91 as they discovered and improved the product.

Welcome, once washed and detailed it looks like its in amazing condition! have you looked under the chassis yet to confirm this?

the insides and bay look great so to find that is a real winner! congrats and welcome to the forum

Welcome Tina! I own a Red 90 RS along with a bunch of other 1990 AWD models. I like how the car you got is so "stock". Very nice. I believe mine is completely stock also but she has been on the back burner, needing a head that doesn't have bent valves, but that's the way I got it for $400.
Again, Welcome to the best DSM Forum on the internet.
NICE SHOP TOO!!!! :thumb:

Yeah it’s nearly perfect underneath. Not completely rust-free but close. Little surface rust in the usual spots on suspension component welds and exhaust but it’s very, very clean for where I live.

And thanks! I like to think I got pretty lucky!

Nice! I’m learning that the 90 cars seem to have some quirks of their own just reading through the posts here. And $400 would be a steal for a much lesser car! Lol.

The shop has been a work in progress but thank you. Lots of hours have gone into taking it from a dingy old barn to a shop suitable for car projects.

Well Tina, I bet the "boys" are drooling when they see that BendPak lift in the background! A lift was a priority for my shop when I had it built 3 or 4 years ago, and we use that thing all the time for all sorts of stuff. I have all 1990 stuff besides my auto 92 Talon, so I am pretty used to the odd ball components or one of a kind things that the 90's take. I try to keep all of that 1990 stuff "in stock" at the shop or on one of my parts cars, and I have several.
I see you have a Supra also. My nephew has a 1989 White one also but it is just sitting, rotting away as he has no power to the interior of the car and won't sell it to me (well I need to ask again maybe).

The lift compensates for my lack of mechanic skill haha. Even with it, I can’t do half the stuff a lot of guys do in their driveways. Speaks volumes about individual skill.

The Supra is such a smooth ride! And the shifter is so nice and easy, except that weird dogleg into 3rd haha. It’s bone stock except wheels and coilovers. It handles really well for its size and stays flatter than expected in the corners. Tell your nephew to get his act together! Haha

All the photos are consistent with an unmolested original. Factory radio, and even the radiator hose has the diagonal pattern that only the genuine dsm (Mitsubishi) part seems to have. Odd that the wheels were switched, but perhaps for snow tires at one point. Perhaps it started out with steel wheels & covers, thought the level of equipment suggests mid-grade that might have rode on alloys. It has power windows/locks/mirrors (I think), a/c, premium stereo, but no factory alarm. Cloth seats. 90 model year has unique cruise control, some ignition parts, gear shifter, power steering pump, to name a few items. Of course the main feature is the 4G63 turbocharged engine. Once you can get the maintenance up to date you’re going to be addicted to the way it revs up. Good thing, too, because gearing is fairly short making 60 @3,000 in 5th. Mathematically that also means 120 @ 6,000!! Exhaust note is very satisfying above 2,300. You found a good one.

Yeah it has power everything and shockingly it all works. Wow that is some pretty low gearing. Maybe not a great highway commute car but that suits my purposes just fine. I’m used to rwd platforms usually running around 3.55s or 3.73s. This must be more like a 4.11 equivalent or even steeper then for most of the gears if 60 is at 3k. Fun!

Hell, my mom’s trailblazer ss is a 4.11 rear and that runs just shy of 3k at 70-80 (if I recall correctly). These dsm gears must be steep indeed.

Keep in mind it's a 4cylinder. That's just how they are. Cruising at 3500rpm is no issue. It's a fine highway car. If you geared them lower they just don't have the power below 3k like a 6 or 8.

Very true. Haven’t even gotten to drive it yet and get a feel for when the turbo lights, when power comes online, when rpms start feeling high, etc.

Wisconsin whatttttt me too. Nice car Tina, that thing is amazeballs.
