So long story short I have my 1995 GST sitting for a while due to a piston ring and time has just past and its been just sitting in a storage. I'm in Tampa, FL. and want the car running again. Any suggestions as to where I can take it for a reasonable price and somewhere where they are familiar with this specific car? Any suggestion is appreciated. My car is modded- internals and turbo if this makes a difference.

Thanks, just don't want to junk it or part it out if it can be avoided.

Did a compression test by a mechanic and after that I just garaged the car.

This is why I need help trying to find someone that's not going to tell me I need to rebuild the motor when it's not necessary. I'm in the Florida (Tampa area).

Motor lost compression got it checked out and told it was a bad piston ring. After that I parked it and has been that way for years.

Under what circumstances? We're you full throttle and it blew? Need more info. Rings sound unlikely. It has zero compression?

I was driving it normally and one day the car just lost power. Took it to a mechanic and was told the engine did not have the required compression. After that I just parked it.

That isn't rings. That sounds like a timing belt issue. Any competent mechanic should be able to diagnose that. If you want a dsm specific maybe somebody in yiur area can point you in the right direction

I hope so, that's why I joined this forum hoping someone in my area (Tampa) could point me to a competent mechanic.

Could be a lot of things more likely than a ring issue. Usually compression is a timing or valve sealing issue. Usually a cracked ring land will smoke at idle.

I want the car running again. Hoping to find someone that will be trustworthy and have the issue identified.
