Buying a 90' Talon TSI shortly more likely than not, and I was thinking about swapping the front end for a 92' front end when I get it. How difficult would this be and how much might it cost?

I apologize if this has already been answered.

There was an old write up on here I thought but if it’s still in existence the pictures may be dead. I know it’s not real involved, finding all the parts in good condition at a reasonable price would be the biggest challenge.

Funny how some folks go the other way, and put the popups on a 1gb. It will certainly free up some space and shed a little weight to put the fixed lights in a 1ga. I have a feeling getting all the parts fir your swap is the easier one.

I did it WAY back in the day when I had a 1g. I suppose there are several strategies, but by far the easiest (I stress easiest, not necessarily cheapest) is to simply replace all the necessary front end components to the 92-94 style. Another strategy would involve modifying some of the components to work. That strategy may save some money but definitely involves more difficulty.

I ended up replacing everything except the 90-91 bumper (which I had to modify to work). I was happy with the results and it was worth it to ME. (And, let's face it, only YOU can decide what's worth it to YOU).

Here in the salt belt it’s getting harder and harder to find 1gb front fenders that aren’t rotted out, and finding a 1gb Talon bumper cover was like looking for gold. One can always have them shipped but then you pay the shipping on items like a fender or hood and hope they aren’t damaged in shipping. I imagine it’s a bit easier in the West and down South.

Yes, I will acknowledge that when I did the conversion, parts were MUCH easier to come by. As others, that have done it more recently have suggested, availability of parts might be something of a deal-breaker on the conversion.

I've done it several times.

You will need the fenders, bumper, hood, headlights, plug for lights, drill out the 2 body brackets that holds the headlights in place, side markers. You can tack weld them in, I just bolt the brackets in.

Basically you need a whole 1gb front clip. The work is super easy though. It's a Saturday project.
