Hello there,

I am looking to get a wiring harness for a 1991 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX. I was curious to know if anyone had any recommendations on where I could find one and if newer gens like the 95-99 G2 would fit in the G1.

Are there junk yards or perhaps after market harnesses that would be available to install in this car?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, been looking for the last couple days without much luck.

For anyone that is interested in an update. I ended up purchasing the 92 Eagle Talon harness and found that it WAS NOT compatible with the components in my engine bay. The fuel injector plugs, coil pack plug, and even the crank shaft position sensor was slightly different, definitely keep this in mind when getting a harness. It appears you may need to get one exactly from the year and model of your Eclipse.

Here is another link I found for after market harness support - http://www.rywire.com/product-p/4g63-1g.htm - bit pricy but the quality from what I hear is really good.

The fuel injection plugs are a universal fit for all 4G63 DSMs. Speaking specifically for 1Gs, the coil pack was the same from 1991-1994 and the CAS plug was the same from 1991-1994. How certain are you that your "original" harness was from a 1991+? Sounds like, at least with a couple of those items, it may have been from a 1990.

There should be very little, if any, difference in a 1991 and 1992 engine harness, assuming they are both from same model trims.

Who knows what exactly he got. For all we know it might have been for a 1.8L.

You make another good point in that it's possible his car was no longer "original". Looking at the profile pictures I think that is a given considering the amount of Talon parts on the car.

Rywire is a reputable company, but their 4g63 harness is discontinued.

When I purchased the car, I unfortunately had very little history of what modifications or parts that were thrown into it. Given the information it sounds like the I may have a 1990 eclipse engine, however, the vin number and bill of sale state that is a 1991 eclipse.

The biggest give away that I may have a 90's eclipse is the fact that the coil pack that I have has a square plug rather than a triangle plug. As well as having what appears to be different fuel injection plugs.

This is a pretty bad picture, but you can see the injectors hidden behind the fuel rail shown in yellow. I can get a better img of the injectors in the near future.

It really looks like you have the proverbial basket case of parts here.

I can't see the Throttle Body very well but it looks like a 90 or earlier version as does the rocker cover with it's 90* bent on the vent. The Cam Angle Sensor (CAS) is a 91/92 version with a connector vs pigtail. I can't see the injectors at all but if they are yellow they are also not original/correct and may indicate this was a JDM pull replacing the original engine.

So you have to decide if your restoring the car to original or just making it work.

As stated in one of your other posts, while yes your car is titled as a 1991 it appears a few different things could be occurring here. I suspect that someone hodgepodged a bunch of stuff from a 1990 into it at some point, however the connectors for the injectors are the same from 1990-1999 (and well into the 2000s for other Mitsu stuff), sounds like someone hacked those connectors off at some point in time to use injectors with a different style of plug opposed to using adapter harnesses for them. Another possibility, check and and double check all vin numbers (not just the one on the dash). I’ve seen several of these cars “vin swapped” over the years to use a title from a different car, which is obviously not legal but has been done. There’s a chance the title was lost at some point in time or the car was stolen at some point in its life and someone swapped the dash or the vin plate in the dash to line up with a junk 1991 Eclipse they had the vin plate and title for, meaning the car could actually be a 1990 Eclipse or even a 1990 Talon for that matter. Another thing to consider is what state the car was sold new. At one point in time (they still might) I know California titled the car as the year it was sold new, NOT the production year and I believe I’ve heard of others doing this as well however I’m not real familiar with titling anything outside of Ohio. For example, IF this car was sold new in California and IF they were doing it that way at the time, it is indeed possible it was a leftover 1990 model year that wasn’t sold new by the dealer until 1991 (ever hear all those dealer ads on the radio come January or February where they run all these “deals” to get rid of the leftover previous model years).

With that being said, as it was explained in a previous post by those of us that have been doing this for several years (along with being explained in the over 20 years of information on this forum) 1990 is the only model year with its own unique harness, 1991-1994 turbo Eclipse/Talon/Laser’s utilize the same harness. A 1991-1994 can be utilized in a 1990 with some slight modifications and many people do this to 1990’s to make them more universal. In the same light, a 1990 harness can be utilized in a 1991-1994 (however who would want to unless they had to) with the same kind of work done.

Take a few steps back and recross your T’s and redot your I’s. Make sure you have all your information correct and move forward again and see what you can find. This response is in no way to bash you but to assist you with what you’re dealing with and to help you from posting wildly incorrect information to others who may be new to this the way you did. By first determining exactly what you have will help you assure you obtain what you need, as to again not bash you but only assist you, it’s ever apparent you don’t know what you have. As someone else stated it’s quite possible you got a harness for a 1.8 base model car with the 4g37 which wouldn’t be correct at all, however even that harness would utilize the correct connectors for the injectors. Even a harness from a 1991-1994 2.0 non turbo car with the na 4g63 would plug in if you had the corresponding things right, it would just be missing some things. Obviously not your fault as you purchased the car the way it is, but looking at it it appears a previous owner did a complete hack job putting things together at one point in time and used god knows what out of who knows how many different 1g’s.
