If you explain to them that you need extra material they can supply that. I can not quote a price because I have no idea what they charge. It only cost me two hundred dollars to do my interior but that's because I did it myself. My top cost a thousand dollars ... I could have ordered one from the U.S but with shipping and handling it was about the same price as ordering it from my supplier. Even tho I am retired I get bugged all the time to do interior work. I have all my equipment and do the odd job just to have extra money for my Spyder. When I am finished it will look just like this picture...I am almost there...Need to paint the front lip and install the vent in the side skirt...

Yea, I just called there as well and $1600 is way more than I am willing to pay. At that cost I would much rather go with an aftermarket seat that has more comfort than our OEM seat. Also, they will not sell directly to you, for that price you have to go to one of there authorized service providers. I can’t speak for the entire DSM community, but I know I would be much more willing to pay for the replacement covers only - at a reduced cost and DIY.

Perhaps a group buy is in order here… If we could show them a defined quantity of people and what they are willing to spend, they could put a business case together to see if it is worth their time. Or, maybe it will entice an active or retired upholster that there maybe value in mass producing dsm seat covers as a side gig.

Someone else had this problem as well fairly recently, but it was cleared up after they gave them a call. I also believe @Widgmaster might have a direct line of contact with them iirc.

I'm probably just going to go with my original plan and let my father do the upholstery. It may not be as pretty with the stitching and what not. But the materials will not cost me over $300.
$1600 plus is just too much for a car that is not even worth that much in its own value.
To those that can afford it and think its worth it - you have my kudos. I'm just not there.

We did start on the upholstery. But my father passed away unexpectedly 2 weeks ago. I’m still grieving big time. We did everything together. He was my best friend as well as my father.
Everyone says that’s great. But it makes this so much harder.

This is as far a we got. I promised I will finish the entire car in his honor. For him. I’ll try. But I can’t do things how he could.
I did say I would post pics.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss... I wish I lived in your neighborhood ...I would come by and help you with that interior ...I live about 50 miles from Detroit Michigan and that is a long way from Pearl River...

Alex,
I'm on the same road you are. Good luck with your journey in restoring the car. Read my profile "ABOUT" for more info.

The paint job looks great! Are you using the original seat foam?

Widgmaster - Sir your seats look like 70' plush furniture! Very niiice!

Really sorry to read this Alex. Pushing on would be the right thing to do instead of ignoring it until it's a forgotten project and basically given away or tossed many years down the road, or even trying to pick up the pieces 5 years from now and finishing it would be hard. If you need help with anything just ask. If you need to ship something out to have redone by someone else I could help with postage through my work. Just ask man, we're here for you.
This is me sitting down on the job...or sitting in the job. 1955 Ford Crown Victoria
Ayyy Gene Winfield, is that you?!

Thanks so much! It’s still very fresh. We were working on the upholstery just a few days before he passed. And it was just 2 weeks ago. Yea it’s hard.
But for sure I won’t let it sit. We both were into it. It was his car that he gave me when he got another car. He could never afford to do stuff to it. And I didn’t need the car. So it turned into just for fun projects. We both loved the 2G models. Even though it’s so hard to find parts :)

We are using the original cushions, but added foam under the material.

Very sorry to hear about your Dad, especially because you two were so close. Yes, finishing this to honor him is the right thing. He would be so proud.

I reupholstered my own interior...The seats are done in tan velour and suede...While I had the seat out I decided to install a rear Sub in the seat just like the 4G Spyder. It was a very easy install. If anyone decides to do this just remember to buy a free air sub

It took some time. I have never done this before. So it’s not perfect. Far from it.
It’s the best I could manage, never even using a sewing machine myself before.

But I promised myself I would finish this for my dad. Our last project together. And I would do my best.
I finally finished one seat. And half way through the passenger seat.
