1G Rebuilding a 1G DSM

I am rebuilding a 91 eclipse GSX that was tore up by a gang. Tore the car down to a shell so I could clean it all out. Been getting a lot of tips from these forms and would love any advice. Started fixing it up you can see the before and after picture. Still have a lot of work to do.

That's just wrong! I thought my car was a basket case when I got it, but no comparison. Good luck on the resto. At least some parts for a 91 are a little easier to find than a 90. Do you have a list of all the crap that has to be repaired/replaced to start checking off? Sometimes the order comes down to what you can find and afford, as it does for me.

Yeah it’s a long list tore it down to a shell so far replace the sound deadening and working on wiring right now… added some pictures.

I removed all the old, hardened tar sheet from my car, too. What a job. It was the one thing that went way better in my cold garage, as that stuff would shatter and flake off. I see you even used the little roller-wheel tools to place the new sound dampener. It looks great, and should make a big difference in comfort, with only a small weight penalty. Soon you'll be looking for all the right screws, clips, and dealydo's to re-assemble the snap-together interior. Auveco makes many repros of those items, if you need to source some.

I think I have just about everything but so far I know in missing a couple rubber pieces and a plastic cover….so far. One goes under the lid for the center console, one for on top of the truck cover and one for under the steering wheel. Below are pictures with green circles around the pieces. The second picture is a close-up of the trunk cover rubber piece.I only need one of each. If anyone has them …let my know and I’ll buy them from you if possible. Also got some other pieces from Performance Partout, then spray painted all the interior with trim and fabric paint. Turned out really good, I’ll post pictures when I get the interior in. Thanks for telling me about Auveco, I’ll check it out.

Nice i just installed kilmat in my car front to rear, i have a radio setup in there plus it looks way better than the factory crap. Keep up the build.

Love a good restoration/revival story. Even better when it's a dsm!

I watch Vise Grip Garage on youtube and have always thought it would be so much fun to go out and do what he does (Getting cars running that have been sitting 10-30 years) but to do it with DSM's. Still haven't found anyone that will let me try to start one sitting in their yard tho. I always have to drag them home on a trailer.

I don't have any good sources for those items. There are a few other forum members out there who are great at scouring the land, finding old DSMs to pluck little gems from. I suggest a WTB add. I don't think Auveco or any other aftermarket supplier is going to have them. Possibly Amayama. Maybe the console storage bumper is a standard part in the industry, but you might need to get two, so they are exactly the same. For the rear hatch block, having at least one should keep the "privacy cover" aka parcel shelf from flopping with every bump. The knee pad bolt covers, you might figure a way to make them yourself and find a close color match of paint? If those the the worst of your troubles, you're doing quite well.
