I've been working on cleaning up my engine bay lately and I knew the old yellowed stock coolant overflow tank had to go. Unfortunately new oem ones are discontinued.
While searching for a new oem 2g tank, to no avail, I ended up stumbling upon the evo 8/9 oem overflow tank. I had no idea if it would fit or not but I decided to buy it and see. It fits!
Comparison of the tanks:
All I had to do was cut a ziptie/clip that was holding the wire harness to the body so I could slid the tank over enough, and drill 2 holes to mount the tank.
You can still use your hood prop clip too!
Installed:
Part number:
I got mine from Maperformance for $35. Since everyone's setups are different, I cannot guarentee this will work for everyone. If your oem 2g tank is still in the factory location this should work for you. I didnt reuse the coolant level switch that is on the 2ga coolant tanks. I just left the connector unplugged and no lights came on, other than the check engine light that was already on from my emmisions delete. If you wanted to, you could drill a hole on the bottom of the evo tank an mount the sensor, but I didnt feel the need to.
I hope this helps someone out that wants an new affordable oem plastic tank on their DSM!
