Here is a simple oil pan baffle that will help to keep the oil around the pick up tube specially at sudden turns, acceleration and deceleration. I don't think will be any good at long turns where the oil will have enough time to escape but sure is better than nothing, is cheap and easy to fabricate. The welding i know is not any near to perfect but holds ok.

Cant this be counter productive and keep oil away the way that baffle is set up ?
I don't think so because the baffle isn't going all the way down to touch to bottom of the pan, the purpose is to not let the oil to jump around very easy at sudden forces, similar like a baffle in a gas tank, at least this is how I'm thinking of it.
Anyhow i will update this post as soon as the car is back on the road and check my oil pressure.
 
Why is such a baffle even necessary? Is it for modded cars or when driven under certain conditions or raced, or all DSMs? AFAIK I've never had a problem with oil pickup in my 1G Turbo. I'm dropping my pan for the first time soon to clean it and am just wondering.

Before reading this please note I am not trying to bash you at all. I admire any type of effort to make ones car better. Especially by fabricating and doing it yourself. Please just take this as constructive criticism.

The stock baffle in a gas tank around the pump has all of the fuel from the return line being sent back to re-fill it. In the engine you have oil running back down into the entire oil pan and now you've created a damn around the entire pick-up tube that will hinder the oil from getting to it. Your engine is also pumping a lot more oil than your fuel system is pumping gas. Once it sucks all the oil out from inside that "cup" around the pick-up the baffle becomes a hindrance rather than helping. If there is hardly any oil in there when you go into a turn and all the oil outside moves to the other side of the pan you'll be running dry.

Look at most manufacture baffle set ups. They are normally like walls going across the pan and placed strategically for the type of racing being done. Drag racing and circle track aren't hard to make a set-up for you just need some type of blockage in one direction to keep the oil from going back on launch for drag racing or from sloshing to the right in a left handed turn for circle track. Road racing and auto-x will require much more complex set-ups with trap doors and such to deal with both right and left turns. If putting a "cup" around the pick-up worked i would imagine you would see this in the designs of manufacture made baffle set-ups

Any criticism is welcome, this is something that i didn't test it yet and I agree with you in the case when you have a "cup" around the pick up, if you notice what i did is that I left enough space under the baffle so any oil that will come from any direction will still fill up the oil pan like it was without the baffle, I just created a wall around the pick up area just to keep the oil from slushing around the deep area of the pan. Maybe the example with the gas tank is not the best.. A long time ago i saw in a forum an oil pan with similar design for the evos just i dont remember right now from which company it was...
I don't disagree that a more complex design with trap doors and more fabrication will be much better.
 
So far so good, i got the car in the street today with street tyres, i did some accelerations with 2nd and 3rd, hard braking and accelerate again, some fast cornering and some zig-zag test and wasn't any drop in oil pressure. Maybe that doesn't say much but I will keep you updated if i take the car to the track and also after some long cornering.
