At one time I had a real nice one. Just stumbled across another clean(ish) floor model. Anybody have one or have a favorite cleaning fluid? I'm not sure if this will run a water based cleaner. I'm open to either. It has a firetrap lid so I'm not overly concerned but I will choose a reasonably high flashpoint.

I want and need one but I prefer a solvent based model. Just what I used to use when I worked in a shop and it always removed grime real easy. What do you think about the water based cleaners?

I haven't used a water based. My last tank was solvent based. I miss that one. Huge one. Tornado took the tank, full of fluid, with a whole trans inside. No trace of it left. Tanks are cheap on the used market. Ita the fluid that's expensive. I haven't looked at what I bought too closely yet. Filters are gonna be a problem. This one looks iffy compared to the zep unit I had.

I liked the solvent based unit and am on the fence about how good a water based cleaner would effectively work on the things I clean. I'd like to hear from someone that has used one and their thoughts.

i never liked the water based cleaner. If you leave parts in them for too long they can rust/corrode. I'm the kinda person that would put parts in and not get back to them for a few days or a week. Unfortunately i don't have a parts washer to use anymore.
Now i use diesel, brake parts cleaner and that purple degreaser to clean everything. It takes forever to get stuff clean.

That what used to do. Just drop them in the tank and let them sit. I got really spoiled with the last unit. I could sink an entire trans case fully submerged

I switched ours at work over to a water based solvent at one shop that I worked at just because I was tired of the toxic solvent/mineral spirit smell every morning when we opened up, I used Simple Green, it was nice as far as rinsing it off with a hose vs something oil based that wont rinse off very well with water. At first I used pure Simple Green and that ended up removing all of the paint from the washer and parts that were painted, the paint came off in huge flakes and would clog the filter in the washer. I then added 50% or so water to it after reading the bottle and it still did a pretty good job on grease, the grease that was removed seemed to float on top of the Simple Green in the tank though since it wouldn't mix with the water based solvent. I would use something like that again no problem.
