Check the specs: if they are 12volt, then the should wire right in. I would also compare the “lumens” which measures the actual light output. LED by nature draw far less current for the same light output than conventional incandescent lamps. This is actually a problem when that higher current is required to make other paers of the circuit operate properly, like dimmers or hazard/ turn signals.

I’m assuming your pop-ups are working, since the output will be weaker shining though the “flash-to-pass” covers when running as headlights.
Also, a quick check on RockAuto shows these normally cost less than $5 each, and the “extra bright” ones are only $12 ea. Any way you can get intl. shipping on those. Buy a bunch and sell them for $100 ea. New business opportunity!!

Not sure about the ones linked to above, but I bought these ones a long time ago

Mechanical fitment was OK, they fit in the bezels.
They did not work when plugged into the factory harness headlamp connector.
I got some pigtails and wired them up separately. The low beams were weak. The high beams were crazy bright.
There is something in the headlamp circuit (at least on my '91) such that you don't just get +12V and GND applied to the headlamp when the switch is on. I suppose I could research the circuit, but just wanted to warn that 4X6 LED lights might not be plug-n-play on these cars.

I played around with LED headlights a little bit last winter. Here are the two issues I saw (at least in my 1990).

1. The wiring harness on the cars are reverse polarity from what you typically see. These cars have a common "positive" and it switches the "ground" leg depending on if you want high or low beam. Therefore, you can only get one or the other to work without some modification since LEDs are sensitive to polarity. I wired mine up to just have the low beams. If I tried to switch to the high beams, the lights would just go off completely. I believe I had to even swap pins around just to get the low beams to come on. They do make reverse polarity modules that seem to correct this issue. Seems to be a common thing for a lot of 80's and 90's cars.

2. The other issue I ran into was that the output from having two LED headlight installed seemed to be fairly low. If I had one LED and one halogen, the LED would be much brighter as I would expect. There seems to be in issue with the lower load with two LED headlights installed, but I have not taken the time since to pull up the vehicle diagrams to try to figure out why (less voltage somehow?). I just wanted to get the car out to drive so put the stock lights back in and haven't really thought about it since. I wonder if trying something like a relay harness used in the HID world would fix the issue of dim lights with two LED's headlights installed since they would get power directly from the battery, but I need to still attempt that.

I would like to try each solution sometime if I get a chance (or maybe someone already has and can share). Maybe the two concepts could be combined somehow to form one solution since running two "harnesses" as fixes could be kind of messy.

Someday I will have to draw the circuits up and see what I can come up with once I get some time.

I was thinking those for my car and looks legal to LOL im not gonna have the halogen lamp that is provided beacuse they look bad but the housing itself looks good. What do you guys think?

Someone has to be FIRST..........:p

My car came with those sealed beam to h4 conversion lamps, they are terrible. The projectors vibrate around and the beam pattern is almost like a spotlight.

I have hella H3 conversion housings now and they are a vast improvement.

I just did the H4 Autpal 165mm conversion, you can get them on ebay for like $50 a set. Then purchased some Phillips Racing Vision H4 bulbs, they are an upgrade from stock for sure, but likely depends what you are going for. Never going to get the same output as LED/HID..

My son just bought a set of 4x6 LED headlights for his 1986 Z28 and they appear to be the same size as our 1ga cars have. I am going to do some checking in one of my parts cars and see if they will fit. I would love to have LED's in my 1ga's.
I will try to get to that and post up my findings so we can all know if there is an option for us.

These guys sure look like they'll work. :)

I need to empty a headlight bucket now.

Please let us know if you run into weird wiring issues when trying them. That is what prevented me from getting mine installed last year and just didn’t have time to troubleshoot further.

I sure will. I hate threads that don't have and ending, be it good or bad. It may take me a bit, but I will post back. They sure look like they will fit, if so, the wiring is easy. We have already bench tested the LED lights themselves. They are bright! Unless I run into some strange configuration in the headlight wiring (which I don't expect, but we'll see), these should work fine, if they will fit into the bucket.

yeah... I just experienced a weird issue where the light would be at like half power when two LED headlight were plugged in. One halogen and one LED was fine. Not sure if it was just the lights I was trying to use or not. I imagine that a simple relay harness would fix the issue, but I haven’t gotten around to buying the parts to make it and try
