1GA GSX Clutch and starter issues.

Issue #1 - Last night, my car (90' 1gA gsx) suddenly wouldn't start. It started with an issue where the clutch would stay stuck pressed in while running; keeping my shifter from switching gears. (Also noticed difficulty trying to get into reverse gear.)
Issue #2 - After shutting off the car momentarily, I tried to start it, but nothing happened. Key turns but car seems completely dead even after jump start.
So, I had to get it towed to the nearest shop and spoke with the owners the next morning. Long story short; $874 for Hydraulic pump going out on clutch and starter motor replacement is what they deemed it. Am I getting hustled or does this seem about right?

What the heck is a hydraulic pump? Only hydraulic issues are master cylinder and slave cylinder. 874$? yeah that's very steep.
 
I will update later today when I pick up the car! I don't know very much at all about cars in general but I hope I can get some good feedback and a lot of help from the community in order to build and take care of my 1G!

Issue 1 you had a master of slave cylinder fail causing clutch pedal to fail. If car wouldn't start (and it had been easily) you have a problem in the starter circuit which could be battery related, starter itself or clutch cut circuit.
Battery - chck the connections first then the battery.
clutch cut - make sure the switch is being pressed or just unplug the switch for now and make SURE the car is in neutral if you try and start.

I'm not convinced you have a bad starter but for sure you have a clutch hydraulics problem.
