I need to replace my gas tank. I know there were companies that made fuel cells for 2gs. Does anyone know of a FWD fuel cell that is a bolt in option? Or could you modify a AWD fuel cell to bolt in a FWD. I know people mount a fuel cell where the spare tire sits but I really would like to use the factory filler somehow. I would like to see how your 2g fuel cell is mounted. Please provide the model that you have. Im not interested in fuel cells that are not available.

My battery is mounted behind the rear seat, between the shock towers. For me to pass tech at a track, how would I have a fuel cell with my battery in the back? If someone has pictures of the needed setup that would help. From my research there is no FWD bolt in fuel cells. Even the 2g AWD fuel cells are hard to come by. That leaves me to mounting a fuel cell somehow and passing tech with the battery in the back. Will a fuel cell pass state inspection?

What you could do since no one makes a production fwd unit is buy a fuel cell / tank to your size and get someone to weld a pipe onnthe side to link upto the stock filler neck. Also try match it to height so you can also use your oem pump housing and level sender but for that you will need someone to make and weld the bolt in flanged on and also weld up the normal filler cap hole. Its not that tricky to do.

Best place is under the car for weight balance and its also hidden and its still seperated by the floor for safety. In the car they link you to have a firewall for safety from exploding or leaking. (At least they do here in the UK) US tend to not csare alot about safety as much i see and rules are not always followed.

For this custom tank to mount you will need a steel frame to bolt on some of the oem mounting points. 2 at the front and 2 rear will be fine then mount the tank to that either from the top or bottom remebering the weight of the fluid can tear the alloy if its not supported loads

Thats how i did mine but i made my tank to my specs and design but a generic off the shel summit racing tank will be fine for your needs

Whats wrong with your tank? the fwd tanks should be in decent supply if yours is rusted.

I am running a wally 525 and there is not enough clearance in the tank without trying to raise the the assembly high enough. I had a spacer cnc cut out to raise the assembly a little higher. The factory stud and nut setup was not long enough to bolt it down any more. So I had to get creative with it. Now I cant fill the car over half tank without fuel leaking. I tried to solve this problem with multiple tries. I would like to have a nicer and lighter setup. Also considering a possible awd swap in the future, I would like a little versatility that would allow me to run a bolt in cell and adapt it to work with fwd while in the process of doing a awd. I have no plans for the swap in the near future but it is a possibility.

I contacted vamos. They said they no one confirmed fitment in a fwd but he said it could be adapted fairly easy. He also said the fuel cells should be available in a month or so. He is doing some revisions to them. Im hoping I can work with him to make it easier to adapt it to my fwd.

Why not make a bracket that places the pump on its side a bit to get you the clearance? If your only talking about 15mm or something like that then even the stock hanger leg could even be angled to allow the difference witbout causing the sock to be in a weird place

Or just install an external pump.

I think I will try this. The bottom of the hanger has that L that holds the bottom gasket/bushing for the sock. I need to find a way to adapt that into the L bracket. Maybe ill cut that section off and have then put it on the the bracket ill be making,

I also thought about the external pump as well. I think having two wally 255 in tank feed a bosch 044? Does anyone know if the full blown hangers are available for fwd? And would that help my clearance issue?

So I tried the L bracket thing and it was to hard to get it in the tank and have the hose not kink. So this is what I came up with and I mounted it is still a tight fit. I barley feel it the bottom of the tank but it still does. So I have it in with the gasket and I think it'll work. I gotta wait till I get more fuel in the car. Wont be for a bit since I'm in the middle of a trans swap.

be careful with the sock on the angle and height like that, while it wont be a huge issue its still not flat near the base of the tank. what would of been more ideal is a hose like this shale ~ or a sideways S which would be 2x90 degree hoses. the pump may need to be bracketed sideways a bit but would at least keep the sick sitting on the base better and flat,

just another option just incase you run into issues with this.

ALSO NOTE!!!!! looks like those hoses are silicone! which wont last in fuel. you will need to find fuel safe hose instead which is full nitrile

Yep, that silicone hose lasted 1 start up . I now have it more of a 90 degree angle. The sock is still angled. Im using a 90 degree hose. Im still not happy with it. I dont see many examples of this pump with a fwd setup. If anyone has pics of setups like this post it up.

Oh dear. I dont remember reading of many huge pumps in a oem hanger.
