Engine is done!

Final picture will be in the next post but as now, intake and exhaust mani are on.
Paint is drying on the valve cover + im waiting next weekend to pick up a cam cover and spark plug cover.

By the time i clean/paint/rebuild the TB, i was looking to keep most oem stuff buf these 1g tb are so small. I had a N/A TB laying around so i took this one.
I welded the EGR opening and i installed my new knock sensor ! thx @1990TSIAWDTALON
And my choise is made, of course i'll go with a FMIC.

Im now waiting for my new clutch, as soon as i get it, this car is gonna have an engine in! yeah!

It's looking good Alex! I am doing the same thing in one of my threads from way back.
Everything I see looks like something I would be doing, keep up the diligence!!! :thumb:
Now lets both get these on the road!!!
Marty

Here is some update on my build.

Found out that my 14B was dead.. like really dead! By chance i found an other one. I do not plan to use my 20g for now, i'll stick to the OEM 14b.

Before putting back the turbo, i found that my FMIC was not working with the stock location alternator and i do not want to move it behind the block.
IMG_7298.JPG

Sooooo.. why not to hack it up and build a custom FMIC with this core! I'm always looking to weld something. I still need a lot of practice (self taught from youtube) but i've seen worst weld than mine.
And i wanted something to retain the factory crash bar.

Next thing will be the intercooler piping (still dont know if i'll go aluminum or stainless), than the turbo back build.

Update!
-relocated the overflow tank under the fender (need space for fmic piping)
-Find a power steering cooler at the junkyard. nice piece of machined aluminum
-Finally had time to build the exhaust
-First time sketching something in 3D, i draw a gauge holder for the center vent. Had a friend with a 3d printer to print it for me. Came out really nice

Hey..! i do not know where to start... Been a long time from my last visit on DSMTuners..!
Crazy year.. new project.. lot of stuff happen.

So the 1G was done late last summer, and i forgot to upload at least the last photos. It is running like a charm, no issue at all.
I'm really proud of that project, it was the most challenging one. Had a few build under the belt but never took an entire cars appart like this one.

So what to do when the build is over?....
Of course, time to start an another one.!! Damn addiction :'(

As i was working late autumn (insurance field adjuster) i often visit tow yard for the job.. thats when i step accros a lonely beauty..
It was sitting here for some years.. Sadly a tree fell on it but it was in a super good condition. Took it home, did all the body work and im now working on the mechanic.
I assure you that i was planning to 4G63 swap it but DSM parts starting to get rare here. So i'm back to my old love... Honda engine..

1991 Mazda B2200 short cab/short bed
Honda K24 engine
Ford 8.8 LSD rear diff
Still looking for tranny choice, should be BMW ZF/Getrag or Nissan CD009

Enjoy..! As i am :D

Great, build. I just started my restoration of same 1990 Red Eagle Talon TSI. Where did you get the decals for the rear?
On ebay from a "Hoosierdecal", but i just check is store and there is nothing on sale right now. Maybe you can contact hm. Was like 14$ for the entire set (side and back)

Alex:

would you mind giving more info on your exhaust/muffler system you built? How is it as far as sound/droning?
I build it with leftover 3" pipe from my last 2G exhaust build.
It had a cheap universal yokana 12" resonator paired with a Dynomax super turbo #17744.
And i used a high flow 3" yonaka catalytic converter.

It made a cheap and good sounding exhaust. Quiet without any drone.
Im getting old XD, its over for me the straight catless exhaust.
