There doesn't seem to be any difinitive threads on this that I could find. That being said I need a little help.
I've torn apart my 2g (unknown origin) trans and something seems odd. I also have a 91 gvr4 trans on the bench. Here is where it gets weird.
The gvr4 center diff has the 2 tab spacer underneath the bottom gear. I don't remember but I thought this was a 90 only center diff. It has no hash marks. If that is the case the outer case gear will only mesh with a 90 or 91 3rd gear. It does have the larger intermediate shaft so it isn't a 90 intermediate shaft. The 2g trans has a center diff with the single tab spacer and no hash marks. Here is where it gets interesting. Just for fun I tried to mesh it with the gvr4 trans and it meshes with 3rd gear no problem. The 2g has to be using 92 up stuff because the 3rd gear on it is a 93 up larger synchro style. What confuses me is how is that possible with the gvr4 is using a double tab center diff?
I was hoping this thread also turns into a "what do the hash marks represent" thread because I can't find any old posts on it and we need one solid reference to put in the resource pages. Any comments?
