I'm looking for information and opinions about front seating restoration available for a 2G.

The gray leather drivers seat in my 95 is showing its age, and I need repair/replacement. Manual seats would be acceptable if they are lighter. A pair of matching Sparco might be nice. My wife is looking for Feb Birthday ideas.

Can you point me in the right direction?

Does anyone have experience with the Sparco mounting hardware fitment? Looking at a pair of R100's
Is there a height issue?
How about lumbar padding - does the padding offered by Sparco fit the R100?

Are there other options that you like better?

Thank you
Justin

I would either find a used pair of seats from a 2g or customize the seat bracket from a 3g to bolt in. I'm running the black leather 2g seats in my 97 gst and then I'll be custom fitting nrg reps (yes reps because I can't afford legit ones). The 2g interior is a tight fit, with my planned bucket seats, I'll basically be pressed right up against the center console, but have enough head room. I'm going to make a bolt in bracket, however I'm sure you could adapt a 2g seat bracket to fit on a bucket seat.

I was quoted $600 to reupholster my front cloth seats with grey leather that I was providing. I imagine you will be around that mark. It isn't cheap to get things upholstered right. I also had my shift boot, center armrest, and door cards reupholstered with black alcantara and pink cross stitching for $640 to give you an idea of how much specialty labor costs including cost of materials.

I mounted a planted seat mount on passenger side and a wedge with sliders on driver side and they mounted perfectly no drilling. Seat height is unaltered. There are whispers that the sparco seat mount raises seat height, but I cannot confirm. I have heard good things about Sparco and Corbeau seats for cheap reliable comfort. If you want lumbar support you may need to get a bit more spendy or just buy lumbar support pillows made for cars they just velcro around the seat. I have a pair of status racing seats currently and they are a snug fit and driver side is specifically tailored to my body and passenger side is just a standard race seat. Bolstering just barely fits in the car. Literally 1-2mm between it and the door card.

I paid $1800 in total for my seats and hardware, but status racing seats are on the premium side of FIAA approved race seats. Which I am not sure if you are going for that or not.

I am running the sparco seat brackets, my seats move around ok, they just graze the roof a hair but they are not full on track buckets. I would just make sure you don't get really tall seats. As far as the brackets go they fit like a charm just like oem. Another detail I guess and it may not matter but I have a sunroof i think im getting a little more clearance from that. they just barley touch at 90 degrees, back a bit more and it doesn't touch at all. I would get seats that can recline for sure unless you are planning to do any autocross.

Hey, check out my build page. I have r100s in mine. I can tell you the issues I had... The seats themselves I love. Not too stiff, not too soft. They have been in my car for many many years and still look new. (I dont use my car that much though). The sparco brackets sit a bit high for me on the driver's side, with the use of rails. This was a problem especially at the track when I had a helmet on. I am 5'8 btw... So since I am the only one who drives my car I decided to not use a rail on the driver's seat, and it's perfect to me. Seats do not hit the headliner. I do have rails on the pass side since I have others sitting there. I have seen that passengers tilt the seat back more than me so height is not an issue (my best friend is 6' and he feels fine sitting in it). Last thing... the brackets seem to kick the seats outwards towards the doors. I hated this, so I opened up the holes with a Dremel to kick them back towards the center consol. If there's anything I could help you with lmk... I would 100% recommend this setup as long as u don't mind what I said regarding them.
Oh I also put a pair of the "leather r100s" in my friends car, they are even nicer than my cloth ones.

Great feedback - I'm 5' 9", and my last road race track day was marriage, child, and two houses ago, but the whole point to restoring the vehicle is to get back out on the track, so helmet head room is important. Build thread... hmmm build thread... Let me see...

Wow - the internet never forgets. I found some of my early early work - Yes I'm the RRE 1Gina2G guy. Me and then ROYZGSX were cutting our teeth on 6 bolts when 7 bolts were falling out of DSM's on their own.

And (holy crap) this is still on the internet from forever ago before Amie married me :-0

More recently, if you have an ECM tuning forum logon - you can find the closest thing to my current build thread here:
Back from the beyond - I want your advice

Or you can find some of my recent work on the PiLink owners thread here:
https://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/pilink-owners-thread.529698/page-2

I keep wavering back and forth between OEM restoration and Street-able race car parts - so keep the advice coming. Sacrificing sliders for headroom is a reasonable compromise for a loan driver, but I want my track day mentors to be able to hop in give me some setup feedback. Sliders really make that easier. (ugh) This is a difficult decision on a budget.

Id be happy to measure the height of the sparco bases if someone else would do the wedge ones. The r100's have a thick bottom, which adds to the overall height. Many other seats are thinner and drop you down in the seat more. If the wedge ones are lower i would buy a set as well.

This pic shows what the slider height adds. Not a ton, but it is noticeable when your inside with a helmet on.

What size rear harness bar did you order. I have one lying around i believe it’s too small.

Re: Wedge, Planted brackets. Are they just a universal fit in terms of seat compatibility? Do they need modified based on what seat you're trying to install? I have zero experience with aftermarket seats but I have got to get the factory seats out of my GSX soon.

EDIT: I just saw on the Wedge website that they are designed for Corbeau, Recaro, and Scheel-mann seats. I promise I can read. It's also worth noting, now that I'm looking at things, that Corbeau's own brackets are $50 cheaper if you want sliders.

Glad to see you're getting a lot of quality feedback Justin. What I found to be the issue with the 1g, not sure if this is the same with the 2g, is that nearly all aftermarket brackets with sliders were a bit taller than stock, which raises the seating position too much for my taste. You almost have to get custom brackets made and/or go without sliders to keep the seating height the same. Maybe that's not the case anymore, or with the 2g options out there. I had picked up a couple of lengths of 1/4 aluminum material to make my own but never got around to it - a local race shop that was building NASA race cars shared that they were doing that with their builds (that was over 10 years ago now though).

And on a side note - please do create a "vehicle profile" for your car here so all your car's info can be documented here on the site (check the main navigation). Then you can post future updates in the attached build thread as you continue your progress and others can easily follow along. The vehicle profiles and build threads here are pretty awesome and the community seems to love them ;)

I have measurements! For the wedge brackets at least.

Wedge:
Floor pan to top of slider- 4 1/2"
Front "foot" to top of slider- 2 1/4"
Slider height- 1"

So my assumptions are A. that if you get the mount without the slider the seat will sit exactly 1" lower in the car. B. If you take your seat out and measure the seat then measure your floor pan to ceiling height you can eyeball where your seat will be theoretically.

Let me know if anyone is curious on the planted mount height and I can get those

Also of note my driver side seat has side mounts and I am on the lowest setting. My seat sits level with the top of the slider

It would be great to get comparison data on the Wedge, Planted and Sparco base units - and a diagram or pic to illustrate where those measurements are taken. I assume each corner of the base has a different height to the feet/tabs that are bolted down. The base with the lowest overall height profile (regardless of slider height) is probably the one everyone wants. Slider thickness we can consider separately.

Roger I will go measure the planted base

Re: Wedge, Planted brackets. Are they just a universal fit in terms of seat compatibility? Do they need modified based on what seat you're trying to install.

All mounts are designed to be universal. Status seats are just now starting to gain a foothold in the tuner world. Starting to see the Zociety use them on instagram and a Japanese company called Ovrdue has their own custom ones now. I had 0 issues mounting them to the both Wedge and Planted bases. Although the skinny driver seat I have was too skinny for where the sliders were mounted so I just drilled new holes and remounted. Took all of 5 minutes.

Sorry for the delay, work has been crazy for me. I took the measurements they are as follows:

Sparco brackets
Floor to top of base w.o. slider 2 3/4"
Floor to top of base with slider 3 3/4"

This measurement I think will help with the r100s specifically... With the seat in it most upright position I measured from the top of the seat pad to the roof headliner.

Drivers side w.o. slider 35 3/4"
Passengers side with slider 34 1/2"

Note, I doubt many people will sit straight up and down, but it was the most reliable way of measuring, and should give you a good idea of headroom with those seats.

The wedge mounts seem to be a tad shorter due to the info provided above, but I don't think I will switch to them for just a half of an inch.

How are you comparing these? I don't see how wedge is lower profile. A picture or diagram with where these measurements are taken would help here.

I was measuring the front foot, which the sparcos came in a half inch taller at 2.75" (vs the wedge at 2.24").
The floor is so awkward on our cars, full of dips and such I actually think that the measurement from the top of the seat cushion to the roof may be the best way to see the height differences, especially if they are the same seats.

On a side note, I'm curious if someone could make that measurement on a stock seat to see how much higher the r100s sit.

I have stock 2G GSX trim - I will check the stock pad to headliner dimension:
Looks like driver (power seat) is 36.25", Passenger (manual seat) is 37.25" ? What do you guys think?
