Which lowering springs has the most aggressive drop on a gsx monster truck wheel gap right now and not sure I want coilovers right away

I hate the 4X4 look too. From all I have read about lowering springs Megan seem to be the lowest drop of two inches.. I have a 4.5 inch gap.. My normal tire is a 215/50/17 .. I found a beautiful set of rims I just have to have but I will run 225/65/16.. That combo is two inches taller than stock so I gain an inch there and a drop of two inches gets me where I want it to sit..

Or you could just embrace that lift and stuff a nice set of BFG A/Ts on that bad boy. They make a 215/65R16 that would fit right on the the stock rims. Isn’t that the point of AWD?
 
I had some eibach sportlines with a nice drop that I thought were cool about 20 years ago. I quickly realized the shocks I put in with them were stock length and the entire idea bad. The sportline springs were soft...so soft.
When that road construction steel plate covering the road appears out of nowhere on you at 25 mph.... and you hear what sounds like a 50 cal go off under your hood, that was the strut bottoming out while simultaneously flattening the bump stops.

Currently using the eibach pro kit with kyb agx's. While it looks nice, I'm thinking I should have followed the buy once cry once rule and bought good adjustable coilovers from the start.

If you're looking for a street suspension you really can't beat what Flatout is offering.
While it looks nice, I'm thinking I should have followed the buy once cry once rule and bought good adjustable coilovers from the start.
I haven't tried too many setups, but I have never been anything but disappointed by spring and strut combinations. Either the springs are too soft and they bottom out or the strut is WAY underdamped for the springs and it rides like crap and handles even worse. If changing height is a goal, it just doesn't make sense to buy springs and struts.
 
Stupid question, but what's the deal with lowering springs? Looks better, rides better, or both?

And is a "poor man's lowered springs" what I had until I just replaced my struts, where the old stock struts lost all bounceback and went as low as they could and just stayed there?

And would that have done damage to or over time "lowered" the stock springs? I measured them when they were out and unsprung and they were within spec.
 
I had eibach springs w kyb’s on my 2g gsx. They looked ok. Didn’t like them at all though because it actually blew out the rear shocks and the upper control arm bushing after a few years and never liked the ride. This was back in 95. Went to GAB coilovers and never looked back. Always went with coilovers after that but I’m sure things have changed since then.

These are the rims I found .... Almost a grand for a set of 4 with tax..duty and all that stuff... I would prefer the rims to have polished spokes rather than the black ... There may be a way to accomplish this...

Two aspects of springs can affect handling: the stiffness and the height. Lower height generally means lower center of gravity, which means less travel of suspension during cornering, preserving optimum geometry. That said, it only helps if the geometry is optimized for the lower ride height, which can be difficult to adjust on otherwise stock suspension. Stiffer springs do somewhat the same thing, though it also depends a lot on how the spring works with the strut damping to manage movement vs. force. Too much spring and not enough damping ends up with oscillations. Coil-overs generally match new springs, damping, and ride height in a way that does try to optimize the geometry for best handling, though even that "best handling" is dependent on what your trying to do (drag racing much different from road coarse racing). Often lowering springs are also stiffer, and that does help to keep from "bottoming out" on potholes. Really, the stock suspension is a form of coil-over, where the coils have the struts within them. This was a fairly advanced suspension on a reasonably priced production vehicle in the 90s.

Struts (shocks, pretty much same thing, though struts also are locating members, shocks generally not) do not really provide static force. That is, they only provide resistive force when they are compelled to move. They can usually be pushed mostly through their travel by hand. This is not entirely the case for 'gas charged' shocks (struts). Those have a pressurized section that helps accommodate the change in fluid volume on either side of main piston. Shocks convert mechanical energy to heat using turbulence in viscous fluid. Springs generally do not convert energy to heat, but store it and try to release it (compression and rebound). I wouldn't have thought your ride height would not change that much by replacing struts. Springs do compress a bit with age, but usually not noticeably. I believe that was a bigger thing with leaf springs, which focus a lot of shear stress on the ends. Coils generally distribute the compression throughout, so not as subject to permanent deformation.

One thing to also pay attention to is vehicle weight. A highly lightened car (say 20%) would significantly alter the behavior of the suspension, essentially raising height and stiffness proportionally. The reverse is true for adding vehicle weight (mass, really).

Dope bro. I had the Motegi mr-7’s on my RS. They tend to look good on our cars.
 
Oh! and by the way...thank you to @Mech Addict for the information on struts / springs ..In my case I did take all things into consideration before finally making up my mind. In my research I got the good and bad and the do`s and dont`s. KYB-AGX Adjustable Struts with Tien Lowering Springs .. that's the way I'm going.

So.....Thomas ... still having trouble deciding what to get ..Just keep digging up information pertaining to your need ... that's what I did..
