hi im nick im new to the whole dsm and boosting a car scene. i have a 14B turbo i just bought rc550 fuel injectors and a walboro 255lph fuel pump with all the new re wiring off of stm tuned and a AEM fuel pressure regulator kit. is this a okay setup? what boost levels should i run should i up the injectors? im using stock fuel rail just looking for some input. Mind you i have dsm link. and this is all for a 98 eclipse gst

Man, that was the exact setup on my 91 laser and I had a lot of fun with it. I say go for it as long as the motor is healthy. Don't expect that 14b to last long; the thing is probably 30yo. I think ran my setup at 18psi or something? Who knows. I was like 19yo.

well i was gonna upgrade and buy a big 16g i got a nice intercooler thats appently good up to like 600 hp i think it said? and motor and trans is super healthy only 63k miles on whole car. super clean no rust. so this setup will work fine with no issues u think? like i want like 400hp

Like you need to plan out your goals before you buy or look at parts and then like you can get a better list together of what you might need, plus why would you ask us if that stuff is any good AFTER you already ordered it? shouldn't you want our opinions BEFORE you pay for the stuff? like thats crazy Scoob.

My buddy was helping me a bit. I'm just seeing if there is something I'm missing and what not.

My goal is at least 370 hp or around there, ideally 400 but willing to settle for 350-370 whp, The turbo my buddy gave me because he upgraded. I bought the injectors but the box is still unopened and I could easily return. The fuel pump and regulator i bought because when I dug a little and found out I'd need a bigger fuel pump with wiring and fuel regulator for my goals.

I'm assuming I might need bigger injectors and the big 16g turbo for my goal but what size injectors?

Are you going to run Gasoline or Ethanol? on the 16g if your buying one new or even used for that matter I recommend you find an Evo3 big 16g, if your running Gasoline on an Evo3 16g a set of 680cc injectors would work well, your 550's could run out of fuel at more than stock wastegate levels on an Evo3.

Regardless of mileage the car is still old, do all your maintenance first so you know where you are. Just because it has 63k miles doesn't mean it couldn't be ready to blow, adding power is always a recipe for disaster. My second car at 16 was a 1990 GST and the first thing I did was turn up the boost after adding a wideband/boost gauge. A week later my clutch was toast from the minimum of 20-30 HP gain. I ended up pulling everything to rebuild and not focusing on what can I do to make it faster but what can I do to keep it fast.

Regarding your injectors go straight for something larger. I am running a small 16g on a built 2.3l, and was hitting 120%+ IDC on Delphi 680cc injectors. I just installed some FIC 1220cc and these are amazing so easy to tune didn't cost much more then smaller injectors and will support me for as long as I need them. Also a walbro 255 is plenty fine for your goal, I am only using a walbro 190 and have plenty of room to spare I'm making a little over 300 whp.

Is there a reason why you are running fuel injectors that small? I am running FIC 1150's and they have no drivability issues. You are going to run out of fuel way before your goal with those.

I have a 14B backup sitting on my shelf - I'm running Evo III Big 16G. Look for a TD05H embossed identification on the compressor housing. (There are several flavors of things called "16G", be cautious)

Do you have ECMLink and a Wideband o2? These I would recommend before a turbo upgrade. Let the data tell you what is holding you back.

The turbo will have a limit. I maxed out my setup at about 24psi. It just won't make more boost. With this flow, I'm reaching about 380hp. In order to keep the burn happy at that airflow - I'm running 720cc injectors with E25 mixed fuel. (E25 is a 4:1 mix of 91 pump gasoline and E85) 91 octane pump gasoline in California has 10% ethanol, E85 is supposed to be 85% ethanol, but it is sometimes less (70%). A 4:1 mix gets me to a nice knock preventive E25 (94 octane)

Funny enough, If you can run your turbo at Max boost, you don't really need a boost controller. (but you will want one to tune your ECU at lower boost levels)

To run more ethanol, you need way more injector. I like Ethanol as the knock level with pump gas was holding me back. You need to run with no knock, else your timing gets pulled back, and all the boost in the world won't help you if your firing at a bad angle on the crank. The better the timing, the better the torque, the faster you go.

Guys running ethanol will tell you to get 1100-2000cc injectors (turbo depending) It's not bad advice, as long as you can control them - and that's what you need ECMLink for.

Hope this helps

I was in your shoes 10 years ago. I went down the same path. I went from our t25 to a 14b, small 16g, 20g then went all out. Setting up the injectors in link is easy. In my opinion, I would return the injectors and get the larger ones. I went from the 550cc to budget 1000cc. Ran 1000cc for a while. Did 28psi on my 20g and still didn't run out of fuel. Anything above 1000cc, my opinion, dialing in idle is a little more difficult for someone new but is still simple. I am currently running 1650cc on e85. I highly recommend FIC if your budget allows. But just pic a brand that has reputable reviews. I personally think these MHI turbos are pretty tough. I do think the 14b would be a little small for a upgrade. They did come stock on the 1g. Any 16g would do you well. I personally enjoyed the experience by upgrading for more power as I went. It got me to really respect the car more and gave me a good chance to understood how it handled.

A few other tips. I definitely think you should get your wideband reading in link if you haven't already. If you aiming for the 350whp mark, make sure you have accurate water and oil pressure gauges. I blew my motor at the 376whp. So I wouldn't push that hard unless you are planning on upgrading the motor.

The few other things you didn't mention was upgrading the fuel filter. If you decide to upgrade the fuel line to 8an. Which isn't needed at your power goal. You could use the factory feed line as your upgraded return line.

Since this is your first boosted car and dsm. I think you would do best by doing upgrades as you learn the dsm platform more and more. Just enjoy the car and drive. If you have any other questions, let me know.

For anyone else reading this, I think its best to welcome new users with open arms and not criticize for choices. Were here to help and learn. I learn something new almost every day.
