looking for an aftermarket ecu’s but the options look to be very limited, curious on what some other people are running or if y’all are running the stock ecu, turboing the car in the future and doing small things to get started and i wanna start with the ecu

any help is appreciated!

You have to do all the wiring. Unfortunately these never made it to a plug and play for the 420a... was never a real market for it.

I went through DIYautotune to purchase all the parts. You can purchase a fully assembled unit from them or you can buy a kit and solder it together following along with the assembly guide on msextra.com. I went with the kit because I like projects and found it fun. If you are new to soldering I would not recommend it.

if i went with an already assembled unit would i have to get a harness aswell from them? if you could send the links that would be helpful don’t wanna buy the wrong thing by accident

I just installed the Megasquirt MS3x on my buddies car that he is turbo'ing, its a wire in unit unfortunately and the support for it sucks balls for what you pay, you can use it as a piggyback with your stock ecu still in place to run the spark and alternator and gauges or you can do what I did and cut the stock ecu out of the car and use the Megasquirt as the only ecu in the car, if you use it as the only ecu, you need to buy the quadspark unit and I strongly, strongly recommend you use the expansion board version as the basic Megasquirt only comes with one coil driver output for some stupid reason, so its intended for a car with a single coil and a distributor like an old Honda, we screwed around for several days wondering why we only had spark on one coil because the wiring diagram is pathetic and doesn't indicate that you should know that the ecu base board only has one output, they will tell you to buy a generic transistor and a heat sink and make your own second ignition driver circuit, which having a degree in electronics wouldn't be a big deal for ME but it might for anyone else, the real problem is that there is no less than about 10 wiring diagrams out there for the Megasquirt for installation options due to the fact that you can assign unused pins to different things, its a mess in short. If I had to do it over again I would have had him buy a Link G4+ all day, might as well wire in an ecu with a lifetime warranty and industry leading support, he had already bought the Megasquirt before I knew about it. Once its installed and configured the Megasquirt seems to work fine so far, we haven't gotten close to driving it though, the engine was just rebuilt so we have much to do.

now that sounds extremely confusing if i don’t has it as a piggyback LOL, if that’s what i have to do then i will but if it’s avoidable then i definitely wanna avoid it
