Hi guys. I just bought a 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS off a close friend of mine. Long story short, it was his high school car that he junked about 5 years ago and I thought it would be funny to buy it and bring it back to life. No laughs yet, just cries
I drove it from Yuma, Az to Los Angeles, Ca (about 220 miles) after doing its maintenance and getting it to run. The Eclipse drove fine with no obvious issues. I tried turning it on the next day and it would just crank but didnt start. I played with the coilpack pigtail and it started up right away. Drove it to work and it decided to no turn on again. Once again I played with the coilpack pigtail and it turned on, buuuut this time it bogged out as soon as I would put it in gear(stick) and accelerate. The scanner shows P1391 INTERMITTENT LOSS OF CMP OR CKP SENSOR SIGNALS. I once again played with the pigtail and it turned on for about 5 minutes and bogged out. Code is gone. My fuel pump is fine. I can hear it turn on and we can smell the fuel. I also replaced the coilpack pigtail and it turned on right away. It stayed on for about 3 minutes and bogged out again. I checked for power at the ignition fuse and it has 12v so thats good. I purchased a Duralast coilpack from autozone and it only reads 0.6ohm at the terminal. My old one also reads 0.6ohm. I warrantied the new one and the 3rd one also only reads 0.6ohm. Their computer says it should read anywhere between 0.7ohm-1.5ohm. Sorry if this post doesnt make too much sense. This is my first time working on a car, but I have worked with other equipment.

Yup check those sensors. They can be bought almost anywhere for dirt cheap. One on the backside of the block and one on the side of the cylinder head. Also make sure both of the harnesses are tightly snapped into the ecu.

Also wouldn't hurt to verify timing. There's a peep hole on top of the timing cover. Pull the 8mm bolt, turn the engine over and see if the timing marks on each cam gear line up with each other.
