My name is Robert and I live in the Indianapolis area, I bought my 1995 tsi awd turbo off the showroom floor. 5 years later I was married with two kids and driving an suv. So my car sat for years getting beat up by the harsh winters of Indy almost sold it twice but somehow those deals fail through. Which brings me to this point with the kids grown, in my fifties and my need for speed has returned So a buddy at work told be about the dsm community and tuners cars, and I’ve been blown away with what I’ve discovered. I’ve watched hundreds of videos and read numerous threads. My first question I have will be where in Indy can I find a good mechanic?? Who’s familiar with dsms. Secondly has anyone used Slate Performance before? I look forward to updating my progress on getting my eagle back on the road with more power than before. I’m thankful for any help I receive.

Welcome to DSMTuners. Congratulations on still having your car, and knowing its history. You’re not alone in your age bracket. As you’ve noticed, there’s a wealth of information compiled here.

With regard to your mechanics question, most current DSM owners do there own work. There are very few mechanics around today that understand the intricacies of the 4G63 engine, drivetrain and electrical systems. If a repair is not done right, it can have devastating consequences.

To get your car road ready again, check out the threads here that walk you through changing all fluids, replacing bad gas, and replacing all belts — including the timing and balance shaft belts. With the time that has elapsed, it would be wise to change the belt tensioner and oil pump too.

You’ll find a lot of members here who will help you through whatever steps your car needs.
