Is a test pipe a direct bolt off the stock and bolt on the new test pipe, or is there more to it? I have never had my dsm up in the air to look, so I figured I would just ask you guys. Thanks.

It should be straight forward. Just know if you are a 96 and up it might get you a CEL.

Unless you get lucky like me. I gutted my cat. Car got quieter, deeper, and no CEL. Can't say the same will happen for you.

You know you lose HP by gutting the cat right?

its very little I read a test in inport tuner or super street they dynoed a s2000 n/t with a cat a gutted cat and a test pipe. the test pipe added like 1 hp the gutted cat took away 1 hp. not sayin it will be the exact same for our cars tho jus what I read. Its also alot cheaper when you have a plugged cat to just clean it out than buy a new one and if your lucky sometimes a cel wont come on.

dont mean to step on any toes Fotowntalon just throwing out there what i read...

I read that same article :p. But bottom line is gut cat causes turbulence, as opposed to reg cat (a fact many dont know and we are in the newbie forum). Granted if you are in a bind as you mentioned, it will save money... but i mean really, a test pipe is what? $20? 30$? Also as NA we need all the little hp gains we can get. As opposed to the boosted ones, where a few hp wont matter.

On a side note, my test pipe did not through my a CEL, but I seem to be in the minority on that.

Since I'm boosted I was looking to free up the exaust. I will replace it when I re-do y entire turbo, exhaust system.

As far as it goes I'm in a pinch. Currently unemployed.

so for my headers on the “down pipe” the end flange that connects to the cat is sideways? do all 420a cars have that or what i’m super confused on it

Pictures would be helpful. Not sure what you mean by sideways.
