Just an update on the car. Back in December I bought some 2GA twisty side skirts from a fellow member of the forum. They were in great shape and I was able to avoid having to ship them cause he was going to be in my area for the holidays so I picked them up in person.

Whatever, that's beside the point. Anyways, they sat around in my basement from then until the beginning of March 2022 with the exception of on January 13 when I decided to "test fit" using tape.

Apart from hanging down and not wanting to stick and being the wrong color, I think they really add something to the car. As of right now, the side skirts are being painted by a friend of mine to match the rest of the car.

They are in the primer stage right now but I'm told they will be done later this week. I'm super hyped on this and I'm glad that the build is finally beginning.

Another update. I have a brand new set of Tein Flex Z coilovers sitting in my basement waiting to be installed.

IMG_4542.jpg

I'm probably going to have some friends over next week to help install them which should be good. I can't wait to get rid of my heinous wheel gap and also improve handling. I'm not into that stanceboy BS but I will probably lower it about an inch, my friends say 2 inches but we'll see.

Hello, it's been a while and I forgot to come back and update this. These are some photos from March 29, 2022 when I had a few friends come over and help me install the coilovers. It really changed the look of the car, I ended up lowering the rear a little bit cause it was taller than the front in these pictures.

The previously mentioned 2GA twisty sideskirts ended up getting painted and I installed them on April 12, 2022. The other pictures are from late April/early May. They really enhance the styling of the car and work really well on the 2GB even though they weren't meant to be on there.

These were after I lowered the rear a little bit, I wanted to match the wheel gap from the front to the rear, I've since lowered the rear a few millimeters just to dial it in. This was May, 26, 2022.

On August 1, 2022 I put on an HKS HiPower Carbon-Ti exhaust. I didn't really want the carbon fiber and titanium one but it's the only one I could find NEW so I got it. I had a bad experience buying used in the past so I didn't want to lose money again. I'm a bit of an HKS nerd so I'm glad I was able to get this. I also ordered a silencer for it but it's really not that loud and sounds great so I probably won't use a silencer. These pictures are from random days in August 2022. I have a link to a video of the exhaust sound.

The most recent thing I've done to the car is I swapped my aftermarket Sony headunit for a stock radio from a 1994 Dodge Stealth that I got from a junkyard. I love the way the interior looks now, the amber lights all match and look amazing at night. I HIGHLY recommend getting an OEM radio for your car if it doesn't have one already, it really makes the interior look much nicer. This was on August 22, 2022 which I now realize is the 2 year anniversary of me buying the car, oops guess I'll wait til next year to celebrate that LOL

Well, it's been over a year since I've made an update here so I'll get you all up to speed once again.
Back in November of 2022, I finally fixed the driver's side foglight that was broken since I bought the car back in 2020. It took so long because if figured out that 2gb talon foglights are actually very rare and numerous dsm parter-outers said they had none for sale and were not able to get any. Luckily, as a black friday deal at a junkyard about an hour from me, they had put a 1997 talon tsi awd on the lot and while the whole drivetrain was completely gutted by the time i got there, I was able to harvest both foglights and frankenstein parts from mine and the junkyard one to create one good foglight. The photos are from various times of me showing off the working 2gb talon foglights, of course now at the time of posting this it stopped working again, but it should be just the bulb now.

Moving on to January of 2023, I made a post looking for a set of GReddy intercooler piping. I wanted this kit because it was able to be used with the stock SMIC but converted to aluminum pipes instead of the oem silicone as well as allowing the use of an aftermarket blow-off valve. Someone on here (I forget his name) had reached out and offered me the pipes and GReddy Type RS blow-off valve along with another pipe and a few various couplers. I decided to paint them wrinkle black but it didn't really wrinkle so they just look black. The blow-off valve uses the stock hose that allows it to recirculate into the intake. I am also still looking for the GReddy intake pipe that replaces the silicone pipe after the MAF sensor in the intake system, if anyone has one please reach out.

This was just a small fix, back in March of 2023, my sunroof got stuck open, I found that one of the tracks was messed up and just replaced the whole track on that one side using a spare sunroof that a friend had given me for free, it has blue overspray but works perfectly fine.

After driving my car in the winter, I realized that having my side skirts not officially mounted up can be problematic and one filled up with snow and came off, I then decided side skirts would be seasonal and now I take them off for the winter, these photos are from May 2023 when the weather was nice enough for me to give them a fresh coat of paint put them back on.

Back in June of 2023, I did an upgrade that I was really excited about. I wanted to improve my brakes and I had taken a set of the two piston front brake calipers from the junkyard awd talon on black friday but they were over 200000 miles and needed a serious rebuild, after attempting to take them apart but to no avail on one caliper, I decided to just buy remanned ones. So I installed the two piston front brake calipers from the AWD 2G DSM's onto my TSi which is FWD. I was able to use the bigger diameter rotor from the AWD cars and everything bolted right up.

Then, on July 7, 2023, I got into an unfortunate fender bender (quite literally). My passenger side fender was completely trashed, the headlight appeared okay but the backside of the housing had completely cracked open, which eventually led to water getting in. The corner of the hood was bent and the core support was pushed down and in. I am thankful the accident wasn't any worse, I could have easily seen the car get totaled, and I could've been badly injured. Luckily I knew of a junkyard that had a fender and made the 3 hour trip over there to get it and had it "fixed" by the following night. I also had a set of spare headlights from another junkyard car so I grabbed one out of my parts hoard.

Moving on to a more light hearted note, here's a few photos from July 27th, 2023 when I had gotten my spare set of wheels back from being powder coated white. I had gotten these off of a local junkyard car in November of 2021, I'm now coming up on two years of owning them and I just recently bought a set of used snow tires for them, not yet mounted LOL

IMG_1053.jpg

Also a small thing, I made a long overdue purchase of new couplers from GReddy, the ones that came with the used kit I bought had definitely seen better days. Sorry for some reason I have no photos of after I installed them.

IMG_1198.jpg

Finally the most recent change I did was painting my fender. I had been rocking the green junkyard fender for about 2 months and it made for a lot of memorable photos and memories, especially on my trip to Wisconsin for Final Bout. I decided to enter my car into the Radwood show in Detroit which was September 16, 2023. So of course, on the night of September 15, I was up late painting my fender black to make it for Radwood the following morning. My friends said me and the car reeked of paint but I didn't smell anything, which probably isn't good. The panel gaps may not be great, and the finish may not be what it once was, but I've grown to be grateful for how it looks and that I did all the work, I'll leave you with some celebratory Radwood photos, I'll be back in year to update again LOL:cool::thumb:
