A buddy’s car I tune we took to the track this weekend trying to get it dialed. We ran into issues getting the car to 60 foot sub 2.0. The car has a quaife LSD, 16in rims with 26x9.5 Hoosier QTPs. We Are thinking the suspension needs adjusting. Who here has experience with fwd 5spd. The car still went 12.87@114mph with a 2.1 60ft. The car is on a hx35 with boost per gear. Leaving at 5250rpm 2 step at 4-5psi and making 12psi in first. Second gear up it holds 28psi+ without spin.

What kind of tire psi? My last outing on m&h 24.5x8.5x15 I was able to cut 1.75 without even using my boost by gear. 11 psi in the tires launching at 6250. I had qtps before but these m&h definitely stick better.

I'm running a 17 x 10 wheel on medium soft tires, i haven't tracked it yet. I used to run a 04 srt4 neon with over 500ftlbs of torque and a solid closed LSD. I took a lot of suspension travel out of the front dropped the tire pressure about 8lbs., and launched in second gear. I'm not sure how the transmission will react in our cars due to not tracking one but its what i did on that particular setup. It made a low 11 pass.

It depends how he's leaving. Bogging - turn up the launch limit. Spinning - seat time & driver mod :D
We started at 15psi and went down to 12.5psi in the tires. We think rear needs to be stiffer as the car is trying to squat in the launch and transferring weight off front tires.
I think you are going in the right direction for sure. It already seems to be hauling pretty good alread, keeping the weight from lifting off the drive tires so much will produce much better traction. Good luck with to ya!

That sounds absolutely terrible. Especially given your elevation.

I just went 12.6@112 with a 14b at 5,800ft and 9700ft density altitude.

this car does consistent 1.8 sixty foots at this power level. With the big turbos I have been as quick as 1.60. And there is still some work to be done with stiffer rear suspension and traction bars for the front as it is a big problem with the big turbos over 800hp.

At this current power level it likes 14psi in the slicks. 23x7 M&H race masters. This is with a welded differential.

We range from 6.5-9psi depending on how much power we are making with the big turbos. More power, lower pressure. Right now the 14b does not make enough to spin the slicks much at 14psi. Any lower and it bogs off the line.

Why such big slicks? What trans? What kind of burn are you doing?

My 1g cuts 1.5s all the time with the best of a 1.54 on a little 24.5x8.5x15”.

Got a video of the launch? I'm guessing suspension is one of the problems that needs fixing. I knocked off .6 seconds off my quarter mile just by adding coilovers.

That sounds absolutely terrible.

I don't know why, but I laughed way too hard at that ROFL

Think you can get my Eclipse into the high 11's on my hx35 here in Denver when I get some free time in 5 to 6 months? :thumb:

I will dig up videos. Car was on stock suspension. We are confident with new coil overs and testing it can do much better. Trans is stock with quaife LSD. We had power taken out of the car and are just trying to get short track right. The Car is on RX7 wheels so needed something for 16in wheel.

To get good ET and mph you’ll have to dump the 16s and go to at least a 15” to get the shorter tire.
How wide of rims? Wondering how much better I can get on a 7" wide rim.

The wheels I have my 24.5x8.5s I think where 9” wide. It’s been a min since I mounted them.
And I’ve been through so many combos.

I think the rims are 8in wide as I recall. I was also wondering if the tires are little to large for the power the car makes. I know guys who run this size but that’s on awds making 600+.

What is a good coil over set for a FWD car focused on the drag strip? He was looking at the drag version of the D2's?

The awd ratios are good to run 26s. It’s been done that you can convert an awd trans to fwd then the 26s make sense. But back to back testing the awd ratio with 26s was slower both ET and mph than the fwd trans ratio and 24.5s with manual trans. Now if you where auto things would be totally different since the 26 is ideal for auto.

Update we added D2 coil overs to the car and played with tire pressure more and got the 60ft better but sadly last time at the track the rad fan didn't turn on and he hot lapped the car and it over heated and killed the head gasket. But on a positive note on that pass this stock 7 bolt held 31psi and 15 degrees of timing from the hx35 at 250 deg coolant temps!! It still was running just fine killed the head gasket from heat.

Drag, would have to dig up the slips to see what we got the car to. The season is ending here and car is getting a built motor now so wont be out for more testing till next year.

I ran 2.0 with 225/45-17 hoosier’s with a t28 it ran 12.6@111 with a 4300-4400 launch

20psi in the tire rear coilovers 1 1/2 higher than the front

What wheel setups are you guys running?

Trying to find a solid wheel setup for my 2g and it looks like most run a slipstream but they are only 7-7.5” wide. Everything I’ve read says that wider is better on the FWD.

I was looking at running 26” QTP’s with a 15” wheel. I have an AWD trans in FWD mode.
