That engine was detonating like crazy, The motor was having difficulty at 12psi ....I just watch the video. Something was off in the fueling or tune for sure
 
They still don't know the root cause of the failure but I really don't think an imperfect deck would make it blowtorch like that - a leaky head gasket doesn't blow sparks or cause enormous head lift by itself either. Sasha, their dyno guy, has a good idea what he's doing, but that had to be fuel related detonation.
 
They definitely had compression getting into the coolant system. Their radiator ballooned when they removed it. I did watch this build and can’t remember if they installed new pistons or not. If it was knocking or fuel related, wouldn’t the tuner have seen this and the afrs. Real curious what actually happened.

Not necessarily, global Afrs don’t give you a picture cylinder to cylinder, I’ve had two customers that had a bad injector and the afrs were spot on. The motor was knocking like crazy. That motor sounded like absolute shit to me. That headgasket failed after detonation .... Imo anyway

That doesn’t make sense to me. How does two bad injectors not effect afr?

Because they made up for it by running the other cylinders richer to get the right global number from the header which is reading the total O2 output, not just a single cylinder.

In that case what would the fuel trims look like?
 
They would likely look fine, again the overall fueling is what is read by the o2 sensor, you can manipulate the injectors to supply enough fuel to look good on a single sensor, thats why some racers run one o2 sensor per cylinder to see if a single injector is completely failed or is for one reason or another not outputting what it should, whether one or a few are not contributing enough.

Yes in deed and don’t forgot.... a lot of tuners are expecting a car that is boost leak tested and ready to go. There getting paid to tune not trouble shoot
 
100% half the people i tune or help ends up the car has mechanical issues. Literally spend hours on the phone with each person talking them threw how to do things and what needs to be done. But at the end of the day if the car mechanically is not ready and tune will not fix it. Most recent one was going random crazy rich while driving on 2200cc injectors and i could not figure it out. Just weird stuff come to find out he did not delete the injector resistor pack when he installed the high impedance injectors.
